COWLEY COUNTY —A small plane was damaged in a mishap just before 2:30p.m. Friday in Cowley County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2004 Kitfox 7 piloted by John Gaston Swofford, 60, Fort Worth, Texas, was enroute from Stol Creek Aviation in Whitewater, Kansas to a final destination at the airport in Fort Worth, Texas.

Following a 3-point landing at Strother Field 22193 Tupper Street in Winfield, a gust of wind caused the pilot to lose control of the aircraft.  The pilot was unable to correct the aircraft and it came to a rest on the grass embankment east of the taxiway. Aircraft sustained major damage to prop and left wing.

Swofford was not injured. The NTSB and FAA will investigate.
