Barton Swimming dives into 2021 season

The Barton Community College swimming programs kicked off the 2021 season on Saturday afternoon with a virtual meet against Southwestern Oregon Community College and South Georgia State College.

The Cougar men toppled over South Georgia State College 177-57 and Southwestern Oregon Community College 146.50-111.50 to start the year off strong 2-0.

Meanwhile the Barton women fell on the opposite side of their counterparts falling to both South Georgia State College 66–53 and Southwestern Oregon Community College 168-46.

Men's Recap

The Barton men were evenly distributed in the win column as five different individuals won races. Sophomores Kacper Mayerberg and Nikolas Ioannides paced the Cougar men each securing a pair of top place finishes. Mayerberg collected his pair in the 200-butterfly and 100-IM while Ioannides secured his first place finishes in the 1650 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

Making impressive Barton debuts Johan Cue Carrillo (50 breaststroke), Justus Hampton (200 freestyle), and Josias Solarte (100 freestyle) all swimming to race victories. The trio alongside Isaiah Auld steered Barton to a gold in the 400 medley relay clocking a 3:41.65 ranking fifth best in program history.

Six Cougars highlighted the men's events leaping inside the program's top-10 lists.

Women's Recap

On the women's side Fanny Courbot kick started her sophomore season with a trio of first place finishes coming in the 50 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 100 medley.

Kaci Bentley opened her second year with a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle to go along with a pair of fourth place showings in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

Making her college debut Sophia Ortiz rounded her day with a third place showing in the 100 medley setting the ninth fastest time in school history with a 1:11.82. Ortiz concluded the day with a fourth place finish in the 50 freestyle.

Barton will return to the pool March 6th when they host Iowa Central Community College in a single team dual.
