Reward for information on location of murdered Kan. men

BUTLER COUNTY —In July 1997, Butler County Sheriff's Office took a missing person report from Franklin "Punkie" Harrod's then-wife, Kelly Harrod.

Investigation into "Punkie" Harrod's disappearance confirmed him to have been killed in Butler County, but his remains have not been located, according to a social media report from the Butler County Sheriff's office.

All three individuals involved in the murder of "Punkie" Harrod were arrested and found guilty, only one remains in prison.

In 2023, Butler County Sheriff Monty Hughey directed detectives to investigate further into finding the location of Harrod's remains. It was during this investigation detectives discovered a second individual by the name of Ricky L. Nelms was also alleged to be buried in Butler County.

A missing person came for Nelms, originally from Moulton, Alabama, and was discovered in Sedgwick County, Kansas dating back to 1988.

In December 2023, the Butler County Sheriff's Office released to the public, the victim's names and photos asking for help locating the two burial locations of "Punkie" Harrod and Ricky Nelms.

Tips were given and follow-up continues, but the exact location of the remains has yet to be discovered.

On Thursday, Sheriff Hughey offered a substantial reward for any information leading investigators to the location of either of these two victims.  Sheriff Hughey believes it's his duty to get the victims located and their remains returned to their families.
