Steven Haulmark, with 25 years of law enforcement experience, will seek the Great Bend City Council's approval at the Dec. 7 meeting to become the next Police Chief for the Great Bend Police Department.

Following the public announcement of current Police Chief David Bailey's retirement this past September, a nationwide search for a new chief started. The city received 21 applications, which were narrowed down to six candidates for in-person interviews.

Haulmark was the choice by the committee and the pick will now go before the City Council for approval.

According to his bio, Haulmark has served as the Assistant Chief at the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department for just under two years. Haulmark received his Master of Business Administration from MidAmerica Nazarene University.

Bailey has served with the Great Bend Police Department for more than 40 years and the past three years as Police Chief. Bailey's final day with the city is listed as Dec. 18.

The City Council meets Monday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Great Bend Events Center.
