KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating after a child critically injured in a fall from an apartment window has died, according to Kelly Rupert, spokesperson for the Independence Police Department.

Just after 10a.m. Monday, police responded to the Independence Towers Apartments in the 700 block of North Jennings Road in Independence, according to a social media report from police. A 3-year-old boy fell from the 8th story window.&nbsp;

EMS transported the child to a local hospital for treatment of critical injuries. He was later transferred to Children's Mercy where he was pronounced deceased.&nbsp;&nbsp;
