Kansas felon with a history of robbery now charged with murder

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas felon accused in a deadly shooting made his first court appearance this week.

Jeremy Miles, 36 of Wichita, is charged with 1st degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Just before 11a.m. Aug. 30, police were dispatched to a reported shooting at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of S. Seneca in Wichita, according to Officer Kris Gupilan. 

First responders  located 69-year-old James Gibson of Wichita with gunshot wounds inside an apartment. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

Police  arrested Miles who remains jailed on a bond of $500,000. He has three previous convictions for aggravated robbery and one for criminal possession of a weapon by a felon, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.
