KANSAS CITY—A Kansas City teen will stand trial as an adult for a fatal shooting that occurred last year.
Kayden T. Bordley, 19, faces 2nd Degree Murder, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson. At the time of the shooting, Bordley was just 17-year-old old. Last month, a Family Court judge certified him to stand trial as an adult.
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to a shooting and located a male victim in the driver’s seat of a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds on February 16, 2025. The victim was declared deceased on the scene.
Based on surveillance footage, a group of suspects approached the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle. The suspects then surrounded the vehicle. The sound of an engine revving is heard on the security camera footage audio and the vehicle abruptly reverses. The three suspects fired at the vehicle. The suspects fled out of camera view.
Detectives were able to identify the defendant as one of the shooters based on several investigative leads.
The defendant is currently being held on a $150,000 (10%) bond.
