KAY COUNTY , OKla —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a deadly crash that left one dead and two injured on Monday.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a 2014 Dodge Avenger with 4 occupants was southbound on Interstate 35 Near Tonkawa.
The vehicle left the road and struck 3 construction workers, employees of Wildcat Construction from Wichita, who were working on the bridge embankment, off the roadway.
Two were injured and were flown to a hospital in Kansas. One identified as 19-year-old Jacob Matuszczak, a construction worker, was pronounced dead at the scene.
It appears the 17-year-old driver had fallen asleep. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the Patrol investigation. The driver and three passengers were not injured.
The Patrol Traffic Homicide unit is investigating and will present the facts to the Kay County D.A. when complete.
"This is yet another reminder to stay alert and watch for vehicles and/or workers on the side of the road" the Patrol reminded.
