DOUGLAS COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities continue investigating criminal damage on a college campus in Lawrence.
On August 18, police were dispatched to Haskell Indian Nations University, 155 E Indian Ave, Lawrence, for a report of a statue being damaged with paint, according to police spokesperson Laura McCabe.
Signs were also placed near the statue with messages expressing displeasure with the Bureau of Indian Education and the office of the U.S. Secretary of the Interior.
The case officer is awaiting more information regarding security footage. University staff were able to power wash the paint off the statue as it was still wet.
