SEDGWICK COUNTY—A man accused in a deadly knife attack was back in court last week for an arraignment hearing.

Edward A. Millan-Volcan, 26, of Wichita, pleaded guilty to first degree felony murder and attempted first degree murder in connection with the July 17, 2025, murder of Sinay, Y. Leon-Montoya and attempted murder of Germany Torres Figueroa, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

The plea was entered in Sedgwick County District Court before Judge Kevin Smith.

On July 17, 2025, a female victim later identified as Sinay Leon-Montoya called 911 from the 6300 block of West Kellogg  to report a domestic disturbance, according to a statement from Wichita Police. But due to a language barrier, communication was difficult. After the call, Sinay returned to her home at Spring Ridge Village Apartments. Upon her return, Millan-Volcan attacked her in front of her two children, according to police.

Leon-Montoya was stabbed multiple times and died at a local hospital. A second woman,Germany Torres Figueroa, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Millan-Volcan is scheduled to be sentenced on July 16. He faces a minimum of 38.75 years in the Kansas Department of Corrections, according to the district attorney's office.
