WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrat Sharice Davids wins reelection to U.S. House in Kansas' 3rd Congressional District.

Tonight, Representative Sharice Davids released the following statement after being reelected to represent Kansas’ Third Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives:“Tonight, Kansans sent a clear message that they want pragmatic leadership focused on fighting corruption, finding common ground, and lowering costs for hardworking families. Traveling across our district throughout this campaign reaffirmed that when we reject partisanship and extremism, we can deliver real, common-sense progress together. It remains the absolute honor of my life to serve the Third District, and I am ready to head back to Washington to keep working across the aisle and building a stronger future for Kansas."

Thank you so much, everybody!Welcome to the party! Look, I know I’m the first up here tonight, so let’s kick this celebration off right! Before I say anything else, I just want to look out at this room and say thank you.Thank you to every single person who knocked on doors, made phone calls until your voice was gone, stuffed envelopes, or talked to your neighbors over the fence. Growing up, my mom always taught us that if you want something done right, you show up, roll up your sleeves, and put in the sweat equity.Well, you all put in the work, and because of you, the Kansas Third is sending a clear message once again!Give yourselves a round of applause! Now, we may have a long night ahead, and we’re all going to be watching the returns together. But I can tell you right now: I’m feeling incredibly strong about where we’re heading. We’ve got phenomenal state and local candidates on the ballot tonight, and I am confident that when all the votes are counted, we are finally going to break that supermajority in Topeka! You know, over the last few months, it feels like the national spotlight has been on Kansas a lot. And frankly? Good. It’s about time!Because if there’s one thing the folks in Washington could learn from us, it’s how to be pragmatic.Kansas knows how to tune out the partisan noise, focus on common-sense solutions, and get things done. People here don’t care about political theatre. They care about lowering the cost of groceries and gas, protecting our public schools, and making sure hard work actually pays off.And if Washington listened to Kansas a little more, we’d all be a lot better off.The truth is, we need more people in DC and in Topeka who actually know what it’s like to live a normal, everyday life.Right now, we see too much corruption in Washington — too many billionaires getting richer on tax breaks while hardworking families get squeezed by high prices. We should have leaders who understand what it means to balance a budget when prices go up, because they’ve actually lived it.And I know what that’s like because of this woman right here: my mom, Crystal.Give it up for my mom!I want to brag on her for a bit.Everything I know about looking out for your neighbors and working hard, I learned from her. My mom raised me and my brothers as a single parent. She served 20 years in the United States Army. Then she went to work for the U.S. Postal Service for another 20 years, where she was a union steward fighting for her fellow workers.Growing up, I was a first-generation college student working my way through school. And then my mom went back to school and earned her degree, too — so now I like to tell people I’m a former first-generation college student!Today, my mom is retired and living on a fixed income. So when I’m fighting in Congress to lower prescription drug prices, stop extreme tax cuts for billionaires, or lower everyday costs, I’m not just thinking about policy on paper. I’m thinking about my mom.I’m thinking about the retired federal workers, the single parents, the veterans, and the families across Kansas who worked hard their whole lives and just want their government to work for them. That’s who I’m in Washington for. That’s who my mom raised me to fight for. And that’s who we are all fighting for in this room tonight.Everything you’ve poured into this campaign got us to this moment — but winning an election isn't the finish line. It’s just the beginning. We have to keep fighting to lower healthcare costs, protect our public schools, support our local farmers, and build an economy where everybody gets a fair shot. But tonight? Tonight, we celebrate what we built together.Thank you for your trust, thank you for your hard work, and thank you for giving me the absolute honor of representing Kansas’ Third Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.Let’s enjoy the night, let’s keep an eye on these results, and let's keep moving Kansas forward!Thank you, everybody!
