SEDGWICK COUNTY The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 42-year-old female inmate who died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, after a suicide attempt Aug. 13 at the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility.

The inmate was placed on life support after she was admitted to the hospital. Her family had the opportunity to visit her and participate in medical decisions. At her family’s request, life support was discontinued Wednesday, and she was pronounced dead at 3:59 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Office is withholding the woman’s identity at her family’s request.

She had been in custody since June 26 and was serving a 30-month commitment following a probation revocation.

The Sheriff’s Office notified the Kansas Bureau of Investigation of the death as required by Kansas law and Sheriff’s Office protocol.

This is the fourth in-custody death involving the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility in 2026.
