KANSAS CITY —Liberty Hospital, 2525 Glenn Hendren Drive, Liberty, Mo.,continues to experience a disruption to their computer systems that began Monday.

Late Friday, the hospital reported third-party specialists were assisting in investigating the nature and scope of the disruption. "While we expect the process to take time, we are making progress," the notice said.

The emergency department at Liberty Hospital is open to ambulances. It has remained open to walk-in patients. A call to the hospital emergency room reported they were accepting patients that did not require radiology. Those who needed an x-ray, CT or ultrasound would be sent elsewhere.

Phone systems at hospital clinics were fully operational. The hospital reported they continue to perform surgeries in main operating rooms and outpatient surgery center as well as the Birthing Center. All clinics were treating patients.

The hospital has not reported they transferred any additional patients to other facilities since Tuesday when the Kansas City Fire Department, along with the other strike team Ambulances, transported approximately 30 patients, according to KCFD Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins. Liberty EMS also transported an additional 10 to 15 patients.

Specialists investigating computer attack at KC-area hospital

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden made thousands of people who were convicted of use and simple possession of marijuana on federal lands and in the District of Columbia eligible for pardons, the White House said Friday.

Biden also granted clemency to 11 people who are serving what the White House called “disproportionately long” sentences for nonviolent drug offenses.

The list receiving clemency includes Deondre Cordell Higgins of&nbsp; Kansas City.

In 2011, Deondre Cordell Higgins, 35, of Kansas City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith to life in federal prison without parole, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

On Sept. 27, 2010, Higgins was found guilty following a bench trial of participating in a conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine in Jackson County, Mo., from Jan. 1, 2005, to Nov. 18, 2008. Higgins was also convicted of distributing crack cocaine.

Evidence introduced during the trial indicated that Higgins had hundreds of customers and sold large quantities of crack cocaine. Undercover police detectives purchased crack cocaine from Higgins and several co-defendants. Higgins and coconspirators distributed up to five kilograms of crack cocaine in Jackson County. Higgins also paid prostitutes who worked for him with crack cocaine.

Higgins was the final defendant to be sentenced in the case. Four co-defendants also pleaded guilty to their roles in the drug-trafficking conspiracy.

Higgins Sentence was commuted to a term of 25 years, leaving intact and in effect all other components of the sentence and with the final two years of his incarceration in prerelease custody, to the maximum extent permitted by law, according to the White House.

Biden, in a statement, said his actions would help make the “promise of equal justice a reality.”

List of inmates Biden granted clemency includes Kansas City man

DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement and fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire at a popular bar near the University of Kansas.

On Friday morning, crews responded to a fire at The Wagon Wheel,&nbsp; 507 W. 14th Street, in Lawrence, according to a media release from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire and Medical.

&nbsp;Crews found and extinguished fire on the outside of the building. The business was unoccupied and there were no injuries reported.

Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and identified a suspect identified according to sheriff's office booking report as 39-year-old Robert Shane Johnson on a requested charge of arson.

Arrest made in alleged arson fire at popular bar near KU campus

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a deadly shooting have identified the victim as 45-year-old Jennifer Eisele of Topeka.

Just before 6p.m. Friday, police were dispatched to a shooting in the 600 block of SW Fillmore in Topeka, according to Police Lt. Ron Ekis. First responders found Eisele suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.&nbsp;

Police have not reported an arrest or additional details early Saturday.

GARDNER, Kansas. –Kansas Department of Corrections inmate 52-year-old Clifford Leon Evans has been placed on escape status after it was reported at 2:45p.m. Monday that he did not return to the facility while serving his sentence at the Johnson County Work Release center, according to a statement from the KDOC.

Evans is described as a white male, has brown hair, brown eyes, is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 131 pounds.

He currently serving a sentence for violating his parole. Evans was convicted in Johnson County for possession of opiates. He is serving that sentence at the Johnson County Department of Corrections (JCDOC) Adult Residential Center (ARC) from which he walked away. Under an agreement between the KDOC and JCDOC, residents who have release plans that are appropriate to Johnson County are housed at the ARC to promote their successful reintegration back into the community.

Kansas inmate who walked away from work release is still missing

Houthi attacks on vessels transiting the Red Sea are attacks on the international community and the international community is coming together to defend against the missiles and drones aimed at their vessels, said Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder at a Pentagon news conference.&nbsp;

The press secretary detailed how Operation Prosperity Guardian will work and called on the Houthis, an Iranian proxy group, to cease targeting international commerce.&nbsp;

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III&nbsp;<a href="https://www.defense.gov/News/News-Stories/Article/Article/3622360/austin-lauds-key-partnerships-in-middle-east/">announced the operation</a>&nbsp;during a trip to the Middle East that ended last night. The secretary met with leaders in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Israel during the trip. "The secretary emphasized the strong and enduring partnership between the United States and his key partner nations towards furthering our shared goals of security and stability throughout the Middle East region," Ryder said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Austin discussed the importance of freedom of navigation in international waterways and the threat the Houthi attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea pose to world commerce. Between 10 and 15 percent of global shipping flows through the Red Sea, "and these attacks are impacting global trade and commerce, negatively impacting the economies of nations around the world and costing commercial shipping firms billions of dollars," Ryder said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In Bahrain, Austin announced Operation Prosperity Guardian. The operation is a new multinational security operation under the umbrella the Combined Maritime Forces and the leadership of Task Force 153, which focuses on security in the Red Sea.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Austin further convened a virtual ministerial from Bahrain with ministers, chiefs of defense and senior representatives from more than 40 countries as well as representatives from the European Union and NATO to discuss the increased threat to maritime security in the Red Sea.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Austin used the forum to highlight the effects of the Houthi attacks and called on the representatives to act collectively. The nations must come together "to address this issue collectively, emphasizing that this is an international problem that requires an international response," Ryder said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

There have been solid results: To date more than 20 nations have signed on to participate, Ryder said. "In the days ahead, the United States will continue to consult closely with our allies and partners who share the fundamental principle of freedom of navigation, and we expect to see the coalition continue to grow," he said.&nbsp;

The operation is a global answer to an international issue and the United States will continue to "work with this coalition of the willing where countries will be able to contribute what they feel that they can," Ryder said. Some of these contributions are military assets like ships and aircraft and other contributions include staff and other types of support.&nbsp;

"It's very important to understand that the Houthis aren't attacking just one country, they're really attacking the international community," Ryder said. "They are attacking the economic well-being and prosperity of nations around the world. So in effect, they really become bandits along the international highway that is the Red Sea."&nbsp;

To further this analogy, the forces assigned to Operation Prosperity Guardian, will serve the highway patrol in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden "to respond to and assist as necessary commercial vessels that are transiting this vital international waterway," the general said. "It's a defensive coalition meant to reassure global shipping and mariners that the international community is there to help with safe passage."&nbsp;

The area is large, roughly the distance between Boston and Washington, D.C., and the operation will work to assure safe passage all along the way.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Last thing I'd say on this is that the Houthis need to stop these attacks, and they need to stop them now," Ryder said. "That's clear and simple. They really need to ask themselves if they've bitten off more than they can chew, when it comes to taking on the entire international community and negatively impacting billions and billions, billions of dollars in global trade, economic prosperity and international law."

Details revealed on US effort to stop attacks in the Red Sea

JOHNSON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspect in connection with a theft ring in Kansas.

Just after 8p.m. Monday, police officers were alerted to a theft taking place at a local Walmart near 65th Street and Maurer Road, according to a media release.

Near the store, first responding officers located two suspects who were taken into custody. &nbsp; 

Officers also found several thousand dollars worth of Legos that had been reported stolen from area Walmart stores, along with drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle that the suspects were driving. 



The same suspects are under investigation and suspected of committing similar thefts, resulting in the loss of more than $47,000 worth of merchandise from various Walmart stores in the metro area.&nbsp;

Just after 11:30 p.m. Dec. 20, police responded to an injury crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle near SW 29th St. and SW Topeka Blvd. in Topeka, according to a media release.

First responders found the two vehicles had crashed. An ambulance transported he driver of the motorcycle to a local hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the other involved vehicle was identified as Shana L. Estes, 36, of Topeka. It was determined that she had a warrant for her arrest and she was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on that warrant.

The victim remains unidentified. He appears to be a white or Hispanic man between the approximate ages of 35 and 45 years old. Evidence indicates the body was placed at the location recently.

WABAUNSEE COUNTY —A law enforcement officer in Wabaunsee County is being recognized for his work to stop a child predator.

On Nov. 15, Corporal Jon Sumner of the Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Office met with a female child victim and her parents at the sheriff's office in Alma, according to a media release.

The girl reported extreme distress after being contacted/solicited online by an aggressive child predator on the phone app Snapchat.

Sumner immediately began an equally aggressive and relentless offensive investigation of the Suspect. Via use of lawfully obtained multiple digital search warrants Sumner, obtained the suspect's account information from his <a href="https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2FSnapchat.com%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR08Pf4JYrQc7XNF5gughwApUCF-UTWuMQ6hV8vgjIzkdc0FLbccMRAJUN4&amp;h=AT26e6d9GChESOv-Tsx9XyGuqP6j75qnBGQkMjo3uvlpkXhZHYGnnDz8FWpX4_Rq6A-YWL1cGclvPh4YzbFzaK-n93_2RpiR9LWNRheyQoMmL7oJua4iXv-fNBpo2FtD6lykSKw&amp;__tn__=-UK-R&amp;c[0]=AT1lR3YyHPI2qxhIfTYx9Rx7D4ELAbmHXSsIh8FAkB4xaR3MKgs7Ox2TIao4JkJsYQTTFPDAy68be_7xbZuW81IY0G9k3STy5QUBoWBGBq5UC3DQtlK498PXzsQ9_vorkWBDPhlKS8zEC4jN64W8ITFWSgZUf4dwICAzD9jSTCwVon2QtA" target="_blank">Snapchat.com</a> account.

Upon review of the account, Sumner discovered evidence of horrific crimes against children. Through tireless investigative action, Sumner identified another 20 to 30 further child victims within the large cache of (CSAM) illegal digital media located within the suspect’s Snapchat account. 

The suspect via deception and threat was soliciting minors, receiving and transmitting child pornography, and transmitting obscene photographs of himself to children.&nbsp;

 Sumner discovered that the multiple victims located on the suspect’s accounts each appeared to be girls, well under the age of 18. Via his efforts alone, Sumner identified this child predator suspect as 25-year-old Miles Steven McGough of&nbsp;Castlerock, Colorado. 

Upon confirmation of positive identification, Sumner immediately contacted the Castlerock Colorado Police Department and conducted rapid multi-agency investigative liaison/action. 

Colorado authorities rapidly tasked their detectives who are assigned to the Colorado ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Task Team to this case. All evidence and suspect information was given to Colorado authorities to ensure case continuance aid in apprehension efforts.

Colorado ICAC and Castlerock Police Department continued the investigation and identified an additional 2 dozen underage female victims. They also discovered that McGough had flown to Florida, and while there did allegedly rape an underage female who McGough had groomed online for months before flying to meet this child in person. 

Arrest warrants were issued and McGough was arrested in March 2023 in Douglas County Colorado as a Fugitive from Justice. 

On Dec. 7 in the Southern District of Florida, McGough was sentenced to 235 months, more than 19 years in prison by U.S. District Court Judge K. Michael Moore. 

McGough had previously pleaded guilty to enticing a minor victim to engage in criminal sexual activity. According to documents in support of his guilty plea, McGough ngaged in illegal conduct with a Southern District of Florida minor. This includes the suspect sending sexually explicit communications to the minor victim through the Snapchat messaging service. 

A search warrant of McGough's cellular phone revealed images of the suspects genitals that he shared with the minor victim, and McGough's cell phone revealed videos and images of the minor victim performing sex acts on him that were created during his visit to Florida. 

Judge Moore ordered McGough's term of incarceration be followed by 15 years of supervised release. McGough was also ordered to pay a $25,000 fine.

Detectives with Colorado ICAC, the Castlerock Colorado Police Department &amp; the Douglas County Colorado Sheriff's Office are also waiting for sentencing on 22 Felony sex crimes that will place McGough into Colorado State Prison for 15-20 years after his sentencing has been served at the federal level.

Kansas Sheriff's Corporal recognized for stopping a child predator

WASHINGTON (AP) — The&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/us-supreme-court">Supreme Court</a>&nbsp;said Friday that it will not immediately take up a plea by special counsel Jack Smith to rule on&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-trump-prosecution-immunity-f3e7206bdf169c9faa15a19084541824">whether former President Donald Trump can be prosecuted</a>&nbsp;for his actions to overturn the 2020 election results.

The issue will now be decided by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, which has signaled it will act quickly to decide the case. Special counsel Jack Smith had cautioned that even a rapid appellate decision might not get to the Supreme Court in time for review and final word before the court’s traditional summer break.

Smith had pressed the Supreme Court to intervene over concerns that the legal fight over the issue could delay the start of Trump’s trial, now scheduled for March 4, beyond next year’s presidential election.

“Former presidents enjoy no special conditions on their federal criminal liability,” Chutkan wrote in her Dec. 1 ruling. “Defendant may be subject to federal investigation, indictment, prosecution, conviction, and punishment for any criminal acts undertaken while in office.”

The Supreme Court separately has agreed to hear a case over the charge of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-capitol-riot-obstruction-charge-trump-5cf0db4a71766f0b40ec199dd0d5a1ab">obstruction of an official proceeding</a>&nbsp;that has been brought against Trump as well as more than 300 of his supporters who stormed the Capitol on&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/capitol-siege">Jan. 6, 2021</a>.

In the immunity case, Smith had tried to persuade the justices to take up the matter directly, bypassing the appeals court.

“This case presents a fundamental question at the heart of our democracy: whether a former president is absolutely immune from federal prosecution for crimes committed while in office or is constitutionally protected from federal prosecution when he&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-impeachment-vote-capitol-siege-0a6f2a348a6e43f27d5e1dc486027860">has been impeached</a>&nbsp;but&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-capitol-siege-riots-trials-impeachments-b245b52fd7d4a079ae199c954baba452">not convicted</a>&nbsp;before the criminal proceedings begin,” prosecutors wrote.

Underscoring the urgency for prosecutors in securing a quick resolution that can push the case forward, Smith and his team wrote: “It is of imperative public importance that respondent’s&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-capitol-riot-immunity-9528a29b2dbebb6ee4a4ebd26780f98c">claims of immunity</a>&nbsp;be resolved by this Court and that respondent’s trial proceed as promptly as possible if his claim of immunity is rejected.”

Justice Department policy prohibits the indictment of a sitting president. Though there’s no such bar against prosecution for a former commander in chief, lawyers for Trump say that he cannot be charged for actions that fell within his official duties as president — a claim that prosecutors have vigorously rejected.

Supreme Court declines to fast-track Trump immunity dispute

JERUSALEM (AP) — An Israel-American man thought to have been taken hostage in the Oct. 7 Hamas attack has been declared dead.

The death of Gadi Haggai, 73, was announced Friday by Kibbutz Nir Oz, which said it had been determined that Haggai was killed in the kibbutz on Oct. 7 and his body was taken to Gaza.

He is the first American to die in&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/hamas-close-to-reaching-deal-with-israel-to-release-hostages-terror-group-chief-says/">Hamas captivity</a>, according to the Hostages and Missing Persons Families Forum.

Haggai had been thought to be among the more than 100 Israeli hostages still alive in Gaza. The announcement did not say how his death had been determined.

It described Haggai as a “gifted wind instrument player … connected to the earth, a chef and a follower of a healthy vegan diet and sports.” It said his wife, Judy Weinstein, was wounded and remains in captivity in Gaza.

Nir Oz was among the hardest hit communities on Oct. 7, with roughly a quarter of its residents taken hostage or killed.

Meanwhile,&nbsp;The U.N. Security Council passed a new resolution that calls for speeding up&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/cyprus-israel-gaza-humanitarian-aid-maritime-corridor-28ab035dcaa18413ddfa36929dd1b457">humanitarian aid deliveries</a>&nbsp;into Gaza, but without the original call for an “urgent suspension of hostilities” between Israel and Hamas.

The United States and Russia abstained from Friday's vote, which was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/us-gaza-humanitarian-un-resolution-security-council-0a490667ff6ae96a299c9133aa2b054b">delayed for days</a>&nbsp;as diplomats sought to avoid a veto by the U.S., Israel’s closest ally.

First American citizen is confirmed killed in Gaza

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged carjacking and asking the public for help identifying and locating the suspect.

The carjacking took place just after 8p.m. December 20 at Dillons, 640 N. West Street in Wichita, according to a media release.

The victim was leaving the Dillons when the suspect approached them with a knife in one hand and a hammer in the other hand and demanded the keys to the car. 

Once the victim handed over the keys, the suspect got into the car and drove south on West Street from the Dillons location.

Police working to identify Kansas carjacking suspect

ELLIS COUNTY —Early Friday, Kansas Highway Patrol troopers responded to a car hauler on fire on Interstate 70 just east of Ellis, according to a social media report from Trooper Tod Hileman.

Traffic at mile marker 148 was down to one lane while the tow truck removes the car hauler.

There were no injuries reported, according to Hileman. Authorities have not reported the cause of the fire or an estimate of damages.

Troopers respond to car hauler fire on Interstate 70

KANSAS CITY —Liberty Hospital, 2525 Glenn Hendren Drive, Liberty, Mo.,continues to experience a disruption to their computer systems that began Monday..

On Friday, the hospital emergency room reported they were accepting patients that did not require radiology. Those who needed an x-ray, CT or ultrasound would be sent elsewhere.

 The hospital has not reported they transferred any additional patients to other facilities since Tuesday when the Kansas City Fire Department, along with the other strike team Ambulances, transported approximately 30 patients, according to KCFD Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins. Liberty EMS also transported an additional 10 to 15 patients.

Hospital officials continue to actively investigate the source of the disruption. "Patient safety and care are our utmost priority, as well as getting our systems back online safely. We expect this process to take time. Our primary and specialty care clinics continue to see certain patients, and are reaching out to reschedule others as needed."

The hospital primary and specialty care clinics are contacting patients who have appointments scheduled  to determine next steps.

Computer attack continues to impact Kansas City-area hospital

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is making thousands of people who were convicted of use and simple possession of marijuana on federal lands and in the District of Columbia eligible for pardons, the White House said Friday, in his latest round of executive clemencies meant to rectify racial disparities in the justice system.

The categorical pardon Friday builds on a similar round issued&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/biden-marijuana-government-and-politics-2d5e3d9e2cfbbbe3ee114536738894a8">just before the 2022 midterm elections</a>&nbsp;that made thousands convicted of simple possession on federal lands eligible for pardons. Friday’s action adds additional criminal offenses to those eligible for a pardon, making even more people eligible to have their convictions expunged. Biden is also <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/12/22/clemency-recipient-list-5/">granting clemency to 11 people</a> serving what the White House called “disproportionately long” sentences for nonviolent drug offenses.

“Criminal records for marijuana use and possession have imposed needless barriers to employment, housing, and educational opportunities,” Biden said. “Too many lives have been upended because of our failed approach to marijuana. It’s time that we right these wrongs.”

No one was freed from prison under last year's action, but the pardons were meant to help thousands overcome obstacles to renting a home or finding a job. Similarly, no federal prisoners are eligible for release as a result of Friday's action.

Biden's order applies only to marijuana, which has been decriminalized or legalized in many states for some or all uses, but remains a controlled substance under federal law. U.S. regulators are studying&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/marijuana-federal-regulation-reclassifying-health-b0b5fc3d34a83d2c95db1665f8149d42">reclassifying</a>&nbsp;the drug from the category of drugs deemed to have “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse," known as “Schedule I,” to the less tightly regulated “Schedule III.”

The pardon also does not apply to those in the U.S. unlawfully at the time of their offense.

Those eligible can submit applications to the Justice Department's pardon attorney office, which issues certificates of pardon.

Biden on Friday reiterated his call on governors and local leaders to take similar steps to erase marijuana convictions.

“Just as no one should be in a federal prison solely due to the use or possession of marijuana, no one should be in a local jail or state prison for that reason, either,” Biden said.

PHILLIPS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities in northwest Kansas captured the Grinch, according to a social media report from the Phillips County Sheriff.

After some intelligence of grinch activity at the High School, deputies, with the assistance of the High School Band and Panther Television, were able to take the green menace into custody.  

Deputy K9 Fritz was critical in his capture and saving Christmas presents. 

The Grinch is now scheduled for Christmas Spirit Therapy.&nbsp;

The sheriff's office thanked the Phillipsburg High School Band for excellent Christmas music and Panther TV for their editing abilities. "No Grinches were seriously harmed in the making of the video."

Just after 12:430 a.m. Thursday, police were dispatched to a shooting call in the 7700 block of E. 32nd Street North in Wichita, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.

First responders located 23-year-old Deniq Ingram of Wichita with a gunshot wound to her upper torso area. She was transported to a local area hospital where she was pronounced deceased. 

The 42-year-old suspect was on the scene and taken into custody on requested charges of 2nd degree murder.

The exact circumstances leading up to this homicide are still under investigation. Police have not released the name of the suspect.

Homicide: Police ID 23-year-old Kan. woman found with gunshot wound 

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY — The search continues for an inmate who escaped from a satellite camp at the Leavenworth Penitentiary, according to a statement from the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

Just after 4p.m. Nov. 10, authorities discovered&nbsp; 50-year-old James Thompson was missing.

Thompson is described as white male with brown hair and brown eyes. He’s 6-foot-2 and weighs approximately 202 pounds.

U.S. Marshals and the FBI were informed that he’s missing from the minimum security facility. 

Last week, a federal grand jury indicted James Thompson on one count of escape from custody.&nbsp;

Thompson was sentenced to 80 months in prison in the Northern District of Georgia for mail fraud.

DOUGLAS COUNTY —Authorities are investigating after a body was found in the Kansas River.

Just after 1p.m. Thursday a person reported seeing a possible body in the water about 300 yards east of Bowersock Dam at the Kansas River, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's office.

The Douglas County Underwater Search and Recovery team and sheriff's office investigators responded and recovered a body in shallow water in that area.

Deputies and Coroner Scene Investigators are working on making a positive identification of the person. The sheriff's office released no additional details.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Two men charged in connection to a mass shooting that left 11 people injured at a Wichita nightclub were scheduled back in court Thursday.

Arraignment hearings for Ameir King-Ingram, 19 and Jaylen Thomas 23, were moved to January, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

&nbsp;Thomas is charged with attempted 1st degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and unlawful discharge of a firearm in a city, according to the District Attorney's office.

Prosecutors also charged King-Ingram and&nbsp;27-year-old John D. Houze&nbsp; with aggravated battery, 6 counts of aggravated assault, 3 counts of criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and unlawful discharge of a firearm in a city, according to the District Attorney.&nbsp;

A Missouri man arrested in the case was not charged after the district attorney determined he was acting in self defense.

Just before 1a.m. July 2, police responded to the club in the 200 Block of North Washington, according to Police Lt. Aaron Moses.

There were nine people with gunshot wounds and two people were trampled during the mass exodus out of the club.&nbsp;&nbsp;No one was killed but one person was critically injured.&nbsp; Police originally arrested a Missouri man as a suspect.&nbsp;He was released from jail after the Sedgwick County District Attorney determined he was acting in self defense.

The investigation indicates there were at least four firearms discharged inside the club. Police&nbsp; also seized an additional four firearms as part of the investigation.

The shooting victims included a 21-year-old man, 26-year-old man, 24-year-old woman, 34-year-old man, 21-year-old woman, 30-year-old man, 24-year-old man. The traumatic injury victims were a 31-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, according to Moses. Two additional gunshot victims checked into the hospital later Sunday.

Thomas remains free after meeting the requirements of a $500,000 bond.&nbsp; King-Ingram remains in custody.

JOHNSON COUNTY —A Kansas man is going to prison for child sex crimes.

On Dec. 19, Judge Michael Joyce sentenced 60-year-old Dana Erwin Person to life in&nbsp; prison, according to the Johnson County District Attorney's office.

 In September, a jury found Person guilty of five counts of aggravated indecent liberties committed between 2017 and 2020.

Kansas man sentenced for child sex crimes

LYON COUNTY—A Kansas man involved in a deadly 5-vehicle crash in April is now facing a murder charge.&nbsp;

Just before 6:30p.m. April 5,&nbsp; a 2014 Kenworth semi driven by Travis D. Edwards, 46, Marysville, was eastbound on U.S. 50 four miles west of Emporia, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The semi traveled left of center and struck a westbound 2014 Subaru CrossTrek driven by Timothy M.&nbsp;Hoekstra, 67, Chino, California.

The 2014 Kenworth semi continued westbound over the center line and struck a westbound&nbsp; 2019 Jeep Renegade driven by Ryan R. Miller, 29, Independence, Missouri and a 2017 Ford Escape driven by Jacob L.&nbsp;Suenram, 32, Lawrence.

Miller and Suenram were pronounced dead at the scene.

 </figure>LYON COUNTY—A Kansas man involved in a deadly 5-vehicle crash in April is now facing a murder charge.&nbsp;Just before 6:30p.m. April 5,&nbsp; a 2014 Kenworth semi driven by Travis D. Edwards, 46, Marysville, was eastbound on U.S. 50 four miles west of Emporia, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.The semi traveled left of center and struck a westbound 2014 Subaru CrossTrek driven by Timothy M.&nbsp;Hoekstra, 67, Chino, California. Miller, 29, Independence, Missouri and a 2017 Ford Escape driven by Jacob L.&nbsp;Suenram, 32, Lawrence.Miller and Suenram were pronounced dead at the scene.EMS transported Edwards and Hoekstra to Newman Regional Health in Emporia. Rowe was not injured.&nbsp;One juvenile was present in the 2017 Ford.&nbsp;Edwards was booked into the Lyon County jail this week and is being held on a $100,000 bond for Murder in the Second Degree, Aggravated Battery; Reckless Great Bodily Harm or Disfigurement,&nbsp; Interference with law enforcement, Conceal/alter/destroy evidence felony case, according to online jail records.
