COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Tamar Bates had 29 points and five steals to help Missouri beat Hunter Dickinson and No. 1 Kansas 76-67 on Sunday.

Mark Mitchell scored 17 points in Missouri’s first win over Kansas since a 74-71 victory on Feb. 4, 2012. Anthony Robinson II had 11 points and five steals for the Tigers (8-1), and Josh Gray grabbed a team-leading 10 rebounds.

Dickinson had 19 points and 14 rebounds, but he also committed seven turnovers. The Jayhawks (7-2) have lost two straight on the road after falling 76-63 against Creighton on Wednesday night.

Missouri opened a 57-33 lead with 14:15 remaining on a jump shot from Tony Perkins. But the Jayhawks outscored the Tigers 30-8 over the next 11:55.

Bates scored 18 to help Missouri to a 39-25 lead at the break. The Tigers then opened the second half with a 16-6 run.

Kansas: Missouri’s size and defensive pressure were too much for the Jayhawks, who are 5-5 at Mizzou Arena since it opened in 2004.

The Panther wrestlers hit the mats Saturday in Kearney, Neb. against mostly new opponents. The 104 points Great Bend scored was still good enough for fifth place. Kearney won the tournament with 201 points, followed by Grand Island with 172.5 points, and North Platte with 137 points.

Jace Schartz, the lone Panther senior in action Saturday, entered the field ranked No. 2 after a third-place state finish at 157 pounds in February. In true Schartz fashion, he ground down his opponents with a pair of tech fall wins and an 18-6 major to close out pool action. He edged Kearney's Taj Wilson, ranked No. 4 in Nebraska's largest class, 7-5 for the championship.

Junior Hayden Kelly brought home the other title at 150 pounds. He pinned his first two opponents before picking up a tech fall and 8-2 decision to get out of pool matches at 4-0. He defeated Andre Mercier of Klein, Texas 9-5 in the finals.

Fifth-ranked Trenton Kern reached the finals at 215 pounds before bowing out with an injury. The junior pinned two of his first three opponents in a total of 104 seconds (1:44) and threw in a tech fall to reach the finals.&nbsp;

Sixth-ranked Triston Tomlinson battled out a third-place finish at 138 pounds. The junior won his first three matches in a variety of ways with a fall, a tech fall, and a major before getting pinned by Kearney junior Kaedun Goodman, ranked No. 6 at 132 pounds. Tomlinson needed just 54 seconds to secure third place in the consolation finals.

Freshman Cal Schartz had a tough open at 113 pounds, losing by tech fall to Kearney's eventual champion and fourth-ranked Jack Sponenburgh. Schartz bounced back with a 36-second pin and a tech fall to advance to the consolation finals where he needed just 45 seconds to pin his North Platte opponent for third place.

Trevin Maciel placed sixth at 132 pounds. He went 1-2 in contested pool matches with a pin and losses to the eventual first and fourth-place finishers. He was pinned by his Kearney opponent in the fifth-place match.

Sophomore Blake Stein posted 2-2 record at 157 pounds for sixth place. Freshman Braxton Richter posted an 0-4 record for sixth place at 120 pounds. Caleb Mulligan lost his first three matches before winning the seventh-place match by forfeit at 126 pounds. Freshman Brody Mendez finished with an 0-4 record at 190 pounds for seventh place. Junior Josue Bustamonte finished contested matches at 285 pounds at 0-3 to place ninth.

Two Panther wrestlers win titles in Kearney; team finishes sixth

Oregon earned the top seed in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/live/cfp-playoff-bracket-schedule">College Football Playoff,</a>&nbsp;while Alabama and SMU waited to hear whether they would make it into the 12-team field.

As expected, the selection committee anointed the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/oregon-penn-state-big-ten-score-top-25-b2ba6b2184ba6718eab0a76953f7f28f">undefeated Ducks</a>&nbsp;as the favorite Sunday, while ESPN dragged out the tension on the panel’s biggest decision -- whether two-loss SMU or three-loss Alabama would nab the last spot.

Georgia, the SEC champion, was seeded second; Boise State, the Mountain West champion, earned the third seed; and Big 12 titlist Arizona State got the fourth seed and the fourth and final first-round bye.

The release of the first-of-its-kind 12-team bracket marks a new era for college football, though the Alabama-SMU debate made clear that there is no perfect formula for choosing a champion.

The tournament starts Dec. 20-21 with four first-round games involving teams seeded 5-12. It concludes Jan. 20 with the national title game in Atlanta.

Alabama is out: Oregon takes top seed in first 12-team College Football Playoff

A new coach and a new tournament. The third-ranked Lady Panther wrestlers opened the season Thursday with dual action against Manhattan. They quickly followed with a sixth-place finish out of 15 teams just over the Nebraska state line in Kearney on Saturday. The home team finished with 201 points, followed by Lexington with 185.5 points. Lars Lueders' Great bend scored 131 points to finish just six points behind fifth-place North Platte.

Second-ranked Camdyn Post won her bracket at 105 pounds. The sophomore pinned all four of her opponents with a pair of wins in 47 seconds or fewer.

Freshman Micah Ellegood made her much-anticipated varsity debut at 125 pounds with a second-place finish. Ellegood went 3-1 in the early matches with three pins and a loss by fall to the eventual champion, Aliena Osterbuhr of Minden (Neb.), a senior who qualified for state in Nebraska last winter. The two met again in the finals with Osterbuhr holding off Ellegood 6-0.

Third-ranked Kirra Stevens placed third at 170 pounds. The senior cruised through her first three matches with three falls in a total of 67 seconds. She was pinned by Lincoln's Carson Shank, a sixth-place state finisher last year. That dropped Stevens to the consolation finals where she pinned her Lexington opponent in 1:51.

Freshman Madison Ketch placed third at 115 pounds. After pinning her first opponent, she was pinned by the eventual champion and runner-up in the bracket. She rebounded with an 11-6 decision over North Platte to secure third place.

Sophia Bauer also pulled out a third-place finish at 100 pounds. The freshman lost a tech fall to the eventual runner-up in round one. She pinned her next two opponents to reach the consolation finals where she pinned her Nebraska opponent in just 44 seconds.

Brooklyn Kelly was another third-place finisher at 130 pounds. The freshman pinned her first two opponents before getting pinned by the eventual champion from North Platte and the runner-up from Lexington. 

Junior Tara Newton finished at 2-1 in pool action at 145 pounds with a pin and a major decision. Her one loss came against the eventual runner-up. Newton came up just short 10-7 in the third-place match.

Senior Melissa Esparza posted a 4-1 record to place fifth at 155 pounds. Two of her four wins by fall came in under a minute.

Sophomore Kiera Leyva entered the tournament ranked No. 4 but had to settle for a sixth-place finish at 110 pounds. After a pin and a bye, she was pinned by the second and fourth-place finishers to drop to the fifth-place match. There, she was pinned by Lexington late in the match.

Freshman Riata Stryker went 0-2 in pool matches that included the first and fourth-place finishers. She finished at 0-3 for sixth place.

The Barton Community College women's basketball team got off to a much needed solid start Saturday evening at the Barton Gym in rolling to its first conference victory of the season 71-37 over Pratt Community College.

A 10-0 run ending the first quarter gave the Cougars a twelve point margin after the opening frame, growing the advantage each frame before another big 14-0 fourth quarter stretch ballooned the lead to its largest of thirty-eight points in cruising to the victory.

Putting its five-game losing streak to rest, Barton improves to 1-5 in conference play and 5-7 on the season while Pratt's sixth straight loss in Great Bend keeps the Beavers winless in league play at 0-5 and slipping to 5-6 overall.

The Cougars' wrap-up of the 2024 home slate now turns its attention to a pair of road trips before the holiday break beginning with Wednesday's 5:30 p.m. tip at Seward County Community College followed by a Saturday 1:00 p.m. tip at No. 5 ranked Dodge City Community College.

For the first time in four games the Cougars had more than two players into double-figures being led by&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="http://bartoncc.prestosports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/onugha_vivian_7u24">Vivian Onugha</a>'s 8th double-double performance of the season.

The sophomore from Nigeria's 29 minutes on the floor stuffed the stat sheet leading all players with 20 points and 19 rebounds while adding a team high 4 steals and 4 assists. Onugha's rebound haul was the 6th game of the year hauling down 19 or more rebounds in a contest.

One glaring stat difference and a last second offensive putback Saturday night at the Barton Gym sent the 6th ranked Barton Community College men's basketball team to its third straight loss in falling 85-83 to Pratt Community College.

Dropping seven behind the arc for a six-point edge at the halftime break, Pratt connected six more times in second half play for a 40.6% shooting night from long distance in outscoring Barton by 27 points.

Despite getting outscored by the long range shooting, the Cougars fought back from a 19-point second half deficit to lead by three with just under two minutes to play. The lead would flip twice more including on the Beavers' 13th arc buster with 37 seconds left but&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="http://bartoncc.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/moss_brent_th5a">Brent Moss</a>&nbsp;offensive rebound and tough putback tied it back up with 16.1 ticks remaining.

Needing one more defensive stop, the Cougars were on the verge of delivering it but Ajiet Akota secured his lone offensive rebound putting the game winner through the hoop with 1.5 seconds left.

Dropping three straight for the first time since December of 2021, Barton falls to 3-3 in conference play and 8-3 overall while Pratt improves to 2-3 in league and 6-5 on the season.

Barton will next embark on a two-game road trip before the holiday break beginning on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip at Seward County Community College followed by Saturday's 3:00 p.m. tip at Dodge City Community College.

Moss assembled his fourth double-double of the year leading all players in the contest, tying his career high of 27 points and hauling half of his career best 16 rebounds on the offensive glass.

Held to just two second half points, Jarrett Dingle led the Beavers with a 22-point outing on 4-of-7 three-point shooting with Khasen Robinson draining 3-of-5 for 21 points. Hunter Vaughn added four more treys towards the Beavers' total for 17 points and a team leading 7 assists as Joseph Opareke recorded a double-double 11-point, 12-rebound performance.

Long distance shooting downs 6th ranked Cougars at home to Pratt

Leading the 7th ranked Barton Community College volleyball team to a 33-4 record and a 4th place NJCAA Division I National Tournament finish,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="http://www.bartonsports.com/sports/wvball/2024-25/bios/reyes_phoebe_zp2h">Phoebe Reyes</a>&nbsp;and Head Coach&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="http://www.bartonsports.com/sports/wvball/coaches/besecker_megan_2024-25">Megan Besecker</a>&nbsp;have received post-season honors distributed by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Reyes repeats landing on the AVCA list by moving up to the 2nd team of selections after a 3rd team distinction from her freshman campaign as Besecker receives the Division I Midwest Region Coach of the Year.

The duo not only helped lead Barton back to the national tournament for the 24th time in program history, but captured consecutive KJCCC titles for the first time since 1998 in compiling a 28-4 league record and a 58-10 overall mark in the two seasons.

In just her second season as a collegiate head coach, Besecker's guidance of the Cougar program earned additional AVCA honors announced earlier in the season as one of two junior college recipients of the 2024 Thirty Under 30 award recognizing the top thirty coaches across all levels around the country under the age of 30.

For Reyes the AVCA award adds another post-season honor to her decorated Barton career consisting of the 2023 KJCCC/Region 6 Freshman of the Year, a two-time KJCCC/Region 6 Most Valuable Player, a 2024 All-Tournament selection at nationals, and a two-time NJCAA All-America selection.

This past season the native of San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic, played just three rotations of the Cougars' 6-2 offensive scheme but still ranked fourth in the KJCCC at 3.51 kills per set on a .271 attack percentage helping the squad overall to a league leading .259 efficiency.

As the Cougars swept 28 of their 37 matches during the season, Reyes' 114 sets played produced 3.23 kills per set on a .272 efficiency, reaching double-digit kills in nineteen contests posting a season high .450 efficient night at then No. 6 Colby and a pair of 18-kill performances, the first at Butler with two dates later at home against Colby.

Down the stretch in Barton's seven match post-season run, Reyes upped her game with five double-digit kills performances in averaging 3.30 kills per set while defensively averaging .74 blocks per set behind 17 blocks in the 23 frames played.

Concluding her career on a .264 efficiency on 1721 swings, Reyes recorded 700 total kills in ranking 15th on the Barton all-time list.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Cam Skattebo and Arizona State are on quite a run in their Big 12 debut after being the preseason pick to finish at the bottom of the conference.

Now the Sun Devils will represent their new 16-team league in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/college-playoff-boise-state-f72744b06516f1404697b1c5455bae20">12-team College Football Playoff</a>&nbsp;after a 45-19 win over Iowa State in the Big 12 championship game Saturday.

The tough-running Skattebo had 170 yards rushing, including a 28-yard gain on the first offensive snap. There were long, tackle-evading runs to open the two drives he ended with short touchdowns, and he later turned a short pass into another score.

“I’ve got the best seat in the house,” said Sam Leavitt, the freshman quarterback who hands off to Skattebo. “Get ready for a gain of 5 or whatever, and I just see the dude kind of weaving through some traffic ... and busts loose.”

The Sun Devils (11-2, No. 15 CFP), with their 34-year-old head coach Kenny Dillingham, take a six-game winning streak into the playoff.

<a href="https://apnews.com/article/iowa-state-big-12-championship-30d6b067883fe860632f83c9310f9d58">Iowa State</a>&nbsp;(10-3, No. 16 CFP), which already had the first 10-win season in the program’s 133-year history, trailed 24-10 before turnovers in its own territory on its first three drives after halftime. Arizona State capitalized with Leavitt throwing touchdowns each time.

“It doesn’t get that much more deflating than that,” Cyclones coach Matt Campbell said. “Their ability to take care of the football and our inability to do that in the third quarter was just paralyzing.”

Skattebo struck the Heisman Trophy pose multiple times during the game, and he wore a Big 12 championship T-shirt afterward.

“Nobody respects the fact that I’m the best running back in the country. And I’m going to stand on that,” he said. “I’m going to keep proving people wrong. And whatever NFL team takes me is going to get a gem.”

That can wait until after Arizona State’s guaranteed playoff spot as one of the five highest-ranked conference champions. The Sun Devils almost certainly will rank below Mountain West champion Boise State (12-1, No 10).

That would give the Broncos a first-round bye and send the Sun Devils on the road for a first-round game, much to the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/big-12-football-championship-brett-yormark-892c43ee3b982b725df53e05bdc122bb">dismay of Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark</a>, who before the title game re-iterated his feelings about that.

“Last year, they left a team out because of a quarterback (then-undefeated Florida State). We’re 11-1 with our starting quarterback, having beat four ranked teams and we won the Big 12 championship,” Dillingham said. “We made a standard that the quarterback is that valuable ... I definitely think we should host a game.”

Xavier Guillory had TD catches of 8 and 21 yards in a 71-second span after the Iowa State turnovers. Skattebo then turned a third-down swing pass into a 33-yard score for a 45-10 lead that he punctuated with one of his Heisman poses.

Skattebo’s 2,074 yards from scrimmage (1,568 rushing and 506 receiving) are a single-season school record.

Before his 3-yard TD, Skattebo had a 47-yard run when he spun away at the line from defenders, then shrugged off others. He had a 2-yard score in the final minute of the first half after a 53-yard run, again after contact at the line before twisting and turning through chasing Cyclones.

“He’s an ‘A’ player, and he played an ‘A’ game today,” Campbell said. “In these moments, you need your ‘A’ players to play ‘A’ football, and he certainly did it.”

Arizona State makes College Football Playoff with win over Iowa State

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Jim Zebrowski will replace Jeff Grimes as offensive coordinator at&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/kansas-jayhawks-football">Kansas</a>, coach Lance Leipold announced Saturday.

Longtime Leipold assistant promoted to offensive coordinator at Kansas

NEW YORK (AP) — Zuby Ejiofor posted career highs scoring 28 points and grabbing 13 rebounds and St. John's used an offensive eruption after halftime to beat Kansas State 88-71 in a Big 12-Big East Battle contest on Saturday.

Ejiofor finished 11-for-17 shooting, Kadary Richmond scored 13 points and RJ Luis Jr. and reserve Simeon Wilcher each scored 11 for St. John's (7-2). The Red Storm had a 51-40 rebound advantage and a 17-10 edge in assists.

Brendan Hausen scored 21 of his 27 points before halftime, David N'Guessan scored 15 points and Coleman Hawkins 11 and grabbed nine rebounds for the Wildcats (6-3).

In a game of runs, St. John's ran away with it after halftime, starting with an 18-5 run over the first 4 1/2 minutes to go up 53-44 with consecutive 3-pointers from Luis and Aaron Scott. Ruben Prey's 3 gave the Red Storm a 62-50 lead at 11:01 to play and they led by double digits for the remainder. St. John's scored 53 points after intermission.

The first half featured runs by both teams.

St. John's used a 12-1 run turning a 16-7 deficit to a 19-17 lead; it's first lead of the game. The Wildcats countered with a 14-2 outburst in which Hausen sank three 3s and Max Jones added another for a 31-21 lead. St. John's rallied with an 8-0 spurt that took just a little more than minute to get within 31-28 with 3:42 left before halftime. The Wildcats led 39-35 at halftime.

It was the first time the two teams faced each other since Dec. 10, 1965, when then first-year head coach Lou Carnesseca led St. John’s to a 72-65 win. Carnesecca died at age 99 on Nov. 30.

Ruben Prey's 3 gave the Red Storm a 62-50 lead at 11:01 to play and they led by double digits for the remainder. St. John's scored 53 points after intermission.The first half featured runs by both teams.St. John's used a 12-1 run turning a 16-7 deficit to a 19-17 lead; it's first lead of the game. The Wildcats countered with a 14-2 outburst in which Hausen sank three 3s and Max Jones added another for a 31-21 lead. St. John's rallied with an 8-0 spurt that took just a little more than minute to get within 31-28 with 3:42 left before halftime. The Wildcats led 39-35 at halftime.It was the first time the two teams faced each other since Dec. 10, 1965, when then first-year head coach Lou Carnesseca led St. John’s to a 72-65 win. Carnesecca died at age 99 on Nov. 30.

Things got off to a good enough start for the Lady Panther basketball team in Friday's season-opener against Salina South. Senior Cassie Ellegood scored the first points of the season in the opening seconds for a quick 2-0 Lady Panther lead. The offense fell into a slump after that as South cruised to a running-clock 57-20 win.

South did much of its damage from the outside in the first half, shooting 19 3-pointers in the first two quarters compared to 21 field goal attempts on the Great Bend end. Seven of the perimeter shots went in. Cougar junior Brooklyn Jordan made three triples, including a pair off the glass, in the first quarter to give South an early 19-8 lead.

The Cougars got two more threes early in the second quarter, then took a steal the distance to open up a 27-8 advantage. Junior Katherine Mazouch ended the drought on an assist from junior Alyssa McCauley but South canned another trey just two minutes later. Sophomore Maddie Siefkes came off the bench to score a pair of late baskets but the Panthers trailed 39-14 at the break.

Then the offensive woes really began. Great Bend missed on all 13 of its field goal attempts in the third quarter. Sophomore Meredith Mazouch saved the shutout with three free throws in the final minute of the frame.

Senior DeShawnna Bryant made a turnaround jumper early in the fourth to end an 0-for-15 field goal drought. That proved to be the lone Lady Panther basket in the second half. 

Jordan and 6-3 junior Paityn Fritz each scored 15 points for South, splitting 15 rebounds along the way. Elle Barth scored 11 points, Tamia Cheeks finished with eight points and six boards, and Brylee Moss scored seven points.

The Lady Panthers finished the night 8 of 43 from the floor. Bryant finished with five points and six boards, and Meredith Mazouch added five points and four rebounds. Siefkes and Katherine Mazouch each scored four points.

Lady Panther offense comes to halt in season-opener against Salina South

It was far from perfect basketball but not bad for a season opener. The No. 5 Great Bend boys led Salina South just 35-26 at the half in a revamped Panther Fieldhouse Friday night. Junior Ian Premer capped a big night with a putback with four minutes to play to set the clock into motion for good as Great Bend won its opener 71-44.

"We know we're an athletic team that can push the pace and run on people," said Premer, who finished with 27 points and 14 rebounds. "They're going to have to keep up with us. It's going to be a track meet but we're going to play defense too. They had 44 - a lot of threes and a lot of free throws. They weren't scoring a lot inside so I think that speaks to us defensively, and we're kind of priding ourselves on that this year."

The Panther offense put on a clinic in the first quarter of the season with a handful of assists that resulted in 9-of-11 shooting from the field. Premer scored 11 points in the first four minutes of the game for an 11-2 Panther lead. Ben Nicholson, one of three seniors on this year's roster, got in the mix with a basket then an assist to sophomore Cooper Ohnmacht. Nicholson put down a jam in the final seconds of the frame to give Great Bend a 20-10 lead.

Junior Jacob Hall scored twice in the first 58 seconds of the second quarter. The Panthers were cruising at 33-15 after a Nicholson three midway through the quarter. South senior Jace Humphrey was the lone Cougar to make field goals in the second quarter but Panther fouls caught up and South finished the frame 8-of-12 from the free throw line to keep it close at 35-26 by halftime.

Junior Ethan Somers swished a three midway through the third, and junior Daxton Minton followed by taking a rebound coast-to-coast for a basket and foul for a 51-31 score. Nicholson picked up a late assist to Premer under the basket, and Premer's putback in the final seconds put the Panthers on top 57-33 with a quarter to play.

"I think we just knew we had to adjust to the fouls they were calling," Premer said. "They were getting a lot of free throws, not on shots but on perimeter fouls. We adjusted to that, shut down their free throw game, and just played solid defense throughout."

Senior Izaeh Reed got in the scoring book with back-to-back baskets midway through the fourth to set up the 30-point lead and running clock. Ian Premer followed the script, collecting one more rebound and basket on a miss from little brother Alec Premer to push the lead to 69-38.

No. 5 Panther boys impressive in debut win against Salina South

The Panther swim team opened its season Thursday at Salina Central. Campus won the meet with 554 points, followed by Garden City with 416 points, and Hays with 350 points. Great Bend scored 236 points for fourth place.

The 400 free relay team of Matthew Johnson, Mark Sperlein, Jordan Sander, and Kale Mermis led the way with a fourth-place finish in 4:48.30 to miss the bronze by 46 seconds. The team of Leo Bashor, Dylon Kalivoda, Randy Weber, and AJ Schartz placed ninth in 6:16.89.

Sander had the team's best individual finish in the 500 free race where he finished fifth in 7:31.94 to miss the bronze by 68 seconds. He finished seventh in the 200 free in 2:38.61, 26 seconds behind the bronze. Williams finished sixth in the 100 breast in 1:29.05 to miss fourth place by just over five seconds and the bronze by just over seven seconds.

Both swimmers made up half of the 200 medley relay alongside Sperlein and Mermis that finished eighth in 2:19.08, 17 seconds off bronze pace. Sperlein finished seventh in the 200 IM in 2:54.21, followed by Williams in eighth in 3:03.83. A 2:39 was needed for the top three.

Cade Urban sprinted his way to a 14th-place finish in the 50 free in 37.02 to miss the bronze by 13 seconds. Kalivoda finished behind Urban in 37.89. Mermis placed ninth in the 100 fly in 1:39.09 to miss the bronze by 27 seconds, and Sperlein placed ninth in the 100 back in 1:26.35. 

The 200 free relay team of Weber, Bashor, Schartz, and Tyler Scheuerman placed seventh in 2:36.23, followed by the Panther squad of Kalivoda, Cade Urban, Logan Urban, and Charlie Maharjan in eighth with a time of 2:38.76.

Panther swimmers open season with fourth-place finish in Salina

- Barton Basketball coach Jeremy Coombs will be on to talk about the Cougars tough week that saw them drop back to back games to Cowley and Butler. He'll also preview Saturday's game at home against the Pratt Beavers.

- Sunflower Sports Solutions Conor Nicholl will put a bow on the 2024 High School Football season and preview the opening week of the basketball season.

Tenacious D is not just a comedy rock duo featuring Jack Black. It's what new Great Bend High School girls' basketball coach Jade Winter wants to see out of her defense. The Lady Panthers will have the opportunity to display the new defense in front of a home crowd for tonight's season-opener against Salina South. 

"I want to just get after it and get lots of deflections," Winter said. "Even if we don't get a lot of steals, just getting a hand on the ball and deflecting it out of bounds changes the mindset of the offensive team."

Winter was a Class 6A state runner-up as a senior at Derby High School in 2017, playing alongside then-sophomore Kennedy Brown, who would go on to play at Oregon State and Duke. After high school, Winter played at Fort Scott Community College and Park University in Kansas City before earning a degree from Wichita State University. While attending graduate school, Winter moved to her family's farm in Bison where she was recruited to coach at Otis-Bison High School. She wants to bring a similar coaching style to Great Bend.

"I really like to play fast basketball," she said. "Fast, aggressive, we're getting up and down the floor. If we don't have to run an offense when we get down there, great. That's what I like the most. I'm really excited we get a shot clock this year. I just think the game is going to speed up so much and it's going to be more of that college feel."

Winter spent three years at Otis-Bison and has been a MAYB coach since 2019. She continues to coach the Marion Heim's Dream Team.

Winter ready to lead Lady Panthers after three years at Otis-Bison

For the first time in 15 years, a K-State women's basketball player recorded a triple-double as&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/serena-sundell/11858">Serena Sundell</a>&nbsp;earned the distinction during a 110-24 win over USC Upstate on Thursday night at Bramlage Coliseum.&nbsp;The 86-point margin of victory was the largest in program history, while this marks the 110 or more points in two games in the same season.

Sundell filled her stat line with 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting and a 6-of-7 effort from the foul line, a career-high and school record-tying 13 assists, 10 rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Sundell becomes the fifth K-State player to record a triple-double and the first since Shalee Lehning carded a triple-double at Colorado on March 7, 2009.&nbsp;Sundell's 26 points were the most points in a K-State triple-double and her 13 assists were the most helpers in a K-State triple-double.

Joining Sundell in double figures were&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/taryn-sides/11857">Taryn Sides</a>&nbsp;with a career-high 23 points with a career-high seven 3-pointers. The sophomore from Phillipsburg added five rebounds, three assists and two steals to her line. Sides is the first Wildcat to make seven or more 3-pointers in a game since Rachel Ranke made eight at Oklahoma on Feb. 10, 2019.

Senior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/temira-poindexter/11861">Temira Poindexter</a>&nbsp;tallied 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from distance.

Senior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/eliza-maupin/11854">Eliza Maupin</a>&nbsp;tallied 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED - K-State (9-1) held USC Upstate (2-9) to one made field goal (1-of-15; .067) in the first quarter and won the frame, 27-2. The two points allowed tied the school record for the fewest points allowed in a quarter since the advent of the quarter system at the start of the 2015-16 season. - The Wildcats would win the second quarter, 23-11, shooting 52.9 percent (9-of-17) in the stanza. K-State would hold a 50-13 lead at halftime. - In the first half, Poindexter led K-State with 14 points, while Sundell filled her stat line with 11 points, seven assists, five rebounds, a block and a steal.- K-State held USC Upstate to two made field goals in the third quarter (2-of-7), allowing the first made field goal with 3:42 to play in the stanza. The Wildcats opened the quarter on a 16-0 run and won the frame, 31-9.&nbsp; - In the fourth quarter, Sundell secured the triple-double with her 10th rebound at the 2:01 mark of the fourth quarter. She was immediately subbed out to a loud ovation from the K-State faithful. - For the second quarter of the night, K-State held USC Upstate to just two points in a quarter as the Wildcats won the frame 29-2. Sundell's triple-double helps No. 13 K-State women blast S. Carolina Upstate

The nation’s leading rusher with 2,288 yards on 312 carries along with 28 total touchdowns, has long been expected to enter the NFL Draft after his record-setting season. Jeanty, who needs 341 yards to surpass Barry Sanders’ all-time single-season rushing record, will have at least two more games to break the record. Friday’s Mountain West title game will be Jeanty’s last chance to make his case for the Heisman Trophy. “I feel like I’m the best player in the country,” Jeanty said at the Mountain West Conference championship press conference. I’ve put that on notice every single week, and it’s just the same thing. I take it week by week. If I’m picked to win (the Heisman), I win. According to the&nbsp;<a href="https://collegefootballplayoff.com/sports/2017/9/20/revenue-distribution.aspx" target="_blank">College Football Playoff website</a>, the 12 teams simply making the bracket earn their conferences $4 million each. Another $4 million goes to conferences whose teams get into the quarterfinals. Then, there’s $6 million more for teams that make the semifinals and another $6 million for those who play for the title. Most of this bonanza comes courtesy of ESPN, which is forking over $1.3 billion a year to televise the new postseason. A lot of that money is already earmarked — more goes to the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference than the Big 12 or Atlantic Coast — but a lot is up for grabs in the 11 games that will play out between the opening round on Dec. 20 and the final on Jan. 20.

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.bartonsports.com/sports/wvball/2024-25/bios/reyes_phoebe_zp2h">Phoebe Reyes</a>&nbsp;of the Barton Community College volleyball team has been announced as a first team selection of the 2024 NJCAA Division I Volleyball All-America honors.

Landing on the second team last year, Reyes is the 31st selection in forty-five years of the program's history, joining Mylena Testoni's consecutive first team honors from the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
