With great sorrow, the Boots and Lewis families announce the unexpected passing of our loving and caring mother and grandmother, Margaret (Darlene) Knox. Her soul peacefully ascended into heaven on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, in Hutchinson.

Darlene was born in February of 1944 to Harry and Christobelle (Henning) Huck in Wichita, and moved with her parents soon thereafter to Zook and Larned. She was a previous member of the Larned United Methodist Church. Darlene graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in piano performance. Darlene resided ‘on the hill’ in Larned for the majority of her life until recently relocating to be closer to family in Hesston and then on to Hutchinson.

Darlene’s youthful years were full of energy and passion for her love of dance and playing the piano. She often danced as a child and into her young adult years, performing in recitals and special events. She choreographed performances for the Sweet Adelines of Wichita, and even had the opportunity to perform on television in 1959. Her love of the arts was further fulfilled by providing private piano and group dance lessons to young children for many years in Larned. Darlene went on to study nursing while working full-time and obtained her RN degree from Barton County Community College in Great Bend in 1978. She worked as a nurse for Dr. Durwin K. Smith Chiropractic and then at Larned State Hospital as a charge nurse for 16 years until retiring early in 2002 to spend more time with her grandchildren.

Darlene’s family meant the world to her. She never hesitated to tell anyone who would listen just how proud she was of the accomplishments of both her daughters, their husbands, and her grandchildren. Darlene was a generous mom and mamaw who took joy in hearing about family updates and reliving memories until her physical body tired and succumbed too early.

Darlene was the only daughter born to Harry and Christobelle Huck, who both preceded her in death. Darlene is survived by her daughter, Denise Boots and son-in-law Henry Boots, Jr.; daughter, Dana Knox Lewis and son-in-law Pat Lewis; grandchildren Ashleigh Boots, Austin Boots, Peyton Lewis, and Gunnar Lewis.

James Dwight Noble, 79, passed away March 20, 2023, at his home, Larned.

He was born Sept. 29, 1943, in Wellington; the son of James and Dorothy Bruce Noble. A longtime area resident, he was a mechanic for John Deere Implement and USD 495 Bus Barn. He retired from the Army National Guard as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years of service.

Dwight was a master of many trades, Lock Smith, Plumber and Carpenter, he was a Mason and a Shriner.

Survivors include; his common-law spouse, LaVerna (Schaffer) Ochs, Larned; three daughters, Dana Noble, Larned, Danette Noble, Salina and Dawnita Noble, Wesley Chapel, Fla.; two sisters, Carolyn Prather, Peoria, Ill., and Judy Lauterbach, Ore.; six grandchildren, Trenton Barrett, Kelton Barrett, Mickiah Whaley, Shaughn Noble, Abbygayle Noble and Tiffany Bair; two great-grandchildren, Johnathon King Barrett and Rocky Noble; a nephew Chance (Michelle) Noble, Larned, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by; two brothers, his twin brother, Dwayne Noble and Merel Lauterbach.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 20 p.m. Friday, March 24 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 23 at the mortuary.

Dwight Noble, age 79

Cody Alan Ragan, 34, passed away on March 19, 2023, at his home in Great Bend. He was born on July 28, 1988, in Great Bend, to Kenneth Ragan and Staci Hammer-Ragan.

A life-long Barton County resident, Cody was a hard worker, immediately starting work after high school at Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility prior to becoming a driver for UPS. He loved spending time with his children, family, and friends, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, and being outdoors – specifically fishing and hiking.

Survivors include a son, Dace Alan Ragan; three daughters, Kylee Elizabeth, Mia Jade, and Madelyn Mae Ragan; mother, Staci (David) Moore of Sherwood, Ark.; father, Kenneth “Ken” (Joni Carr) Ragan, of Milberger; two brothers, Jonathan (Jessica Michael) Ragan of Auburn, Wash., and Tanner Ragan of Silverdale, Wash.; a sister, Ashely Jackson of Sherwood, Ark.; nieces and nephews, Joseph, Austin and Hunter Ragan, Adaline Ragan, Jonathan and Jozlyn Bohl, Elijah Ragan, Mike Leiker, Korban and Logan Bain; grandparents, William and Marietta Hammer of Montrose, Colo., and LaVon Rosell of Wamego; and lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was born February 8, 1955, in Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Manuel Holguin Urvina and Guadalupe Rivas Payan.

A resident of Lewis for 23 years, she moved from Chihuahua. She was a member of the Christian Faith and attended Iglesia Pan De Vida in Kinsley. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, weaving, watching tv, and going to church.

Survivors include: son, Alonzo (Nancy) Ponce, Lewis; daughter, Rocio (Rene) Guevara, Lewis; eight siblings, Javier Holguin Rivas, Chato Holguin Rivas, Victor Holguin Rivas, Sol Holguin Rivas, Esther Holguin Rivas, Irma Holguin Rivas, Rosy Holguin Rivas, Luz Holguin Rivas; eight grandchildren, Rene Alonzo Guevara, Orion Guevara, Max Guevara, Ares Guevara, Khloe A. Maria Holguin, age 68

Gerald Raymond Zorn, 88, passed away March 18, 2023, at his home in Great Bend. He was born on July 24, 1934, on the farm near Odin, to Fred &amp; Anna (Kirmer) Zorn. He married Loretta Soellner on April 18, 1959, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Willowdale, Kan.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Gerald was a farmer and worked as a shipping supervisor at Great Bend Manufacturing, having retired in 1999 after 35 years. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #862, VFW Post #3111 and American Legion Post #180. He enjoyed fellowship and dinner with his close friends at the American Legion and polka dancing, as well as having led many Grand Marches at weddings over the years. Gerald was a veteran of the United States Army, having been stationed in Germany.

Survivors include, his wife, Loretta of the home; a son, Brian Zorn (Linda Judge) of Fort Collins, Colo.; a daughter, Jane Potera (Stanley) of Great Bend; a sister, Helen Holiday of Inman; three sisters in law, Emily Zorn, Bernice Zorn and Lea Zorn; and five grandchildren, Christopher Zorn, Amber Zorn, Becky Holt (David), Abbey Zorn and Spencer Zorn. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kevin Zorn; seven brothers, Frank Zorn, Leonard Zorn, Bernard Zorn, Elmer Zorn, Alvin Zorn, Edwin Zorn, and Richard Zorn; and four sisters, Margaret Steiner, Matilda “Tillie” Schremmer, Eleanor Hickel and Marion Schroeder.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 23, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend. Gerald Zorn, age 88

Danny Scott Trout, 40, formerly of Bushton, passed away on March 11, 2023, in Houston, Texas.&nbsp; Danny was born to Larry and Laura Trout on Sept. 6, 1982, in Great Bend. He spent the majority of his childhood in Bushton and graduated from Quivira Heights High School in 2000. As a teenager, Danny loved playing football, long-distance running, and learning physics and chemistry from his favorite teacher, who deeply inspired him. He had a lead role in the school play every year and carried that passion with him throughout his adult life. Danny had the kindest heart and embodied the definition of a true friend, often going out of his way to help and encourage others. He attended Kansas State University, majoring in theater and physics. He also enjoyed learning to speak French and was a member of Beta Sigma Psi Fraternity.

Danny lived in California for several years as an adult and loved the ocean there, as well as spending time in Hollywood. In 2014, he moved to Angleton, Texas to be closer to his parents. All of Danny’s life, he shared a close bond with his Mother, whom he loved deeply.&nbsp;

Danny also loved being an uncle and sharing his interests with his nephews and niece. He convinced each one of them at one point or another that he was Superman. He shared his best “dad jokes” with them, he taught them all of the secrets of his favorite video games, and he morphed into the best tickle monster that ever existed.

Danny is survived by his mother, Laura Trout of Angleton, Texas; his two sisters: Dawn Trout of Rocky Ford, Colo., and Crystal Trout of Lake Jackson, Texas; his grandmother, Karen Allison of Bushton; his two nephews: Dylan (Madison) Mortimore of Great Bend, and Layne Trout of Rocky Ford, Colo.; his niece, Emma Trout of Lake Jackson, Texas; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.&nbsp; Danny is joined in Heaven by his father, Larry Trout; his sister, Charlie Trout; and his gramps, Larry Temple.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Bushton, with Father Michael Brungardt officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyons Municipal Cemetery in Lyons.  </figure>Danny Scott Trout, 40, formerly of Bushton, passed away on March 11, 2023, in Houston, Texas.&nbsp; Danny was born to Larry and Laura Trout on Sept. 6, 1982, in Great Bend. He spent the majority of his childhood in Bushton and graduated from Quivira Heights High School in 2000. As a teenager, Danny loved playing football, long-distance running, and learning physics and chemistry from his favorite teacher, who deeply inspired him. He had a lead role in the school play every year and carried that passion with him throughout his adult life. Danny had the kindest heart and embodied the definition of a true friend, often going out of his way to help and encourage others. He attended Kansas State University, majoring in theater and physics. He also enjoyed learning to speak French and was a member of Beta Sigma Psi Fraternity.Danny lived in California for several years as an adult and loved the ocean there, as well as spending time in Hollywood. In 2014, he moved to Angleton, Texas to be closer to his parents. All of Danny’s life, he shared a close bond with his Mother, whom he loved deeply.&nbsp;Danny also loved being an uncle and sharing his interests with his nephews and niece. He convinced each one of them at one point or another that he was Superman. He shared his best “dad jokes” with them, he taught them all of the secrets of his favorite video games, and he morphed into the best tickle monster that ever existed.Danny is survived by his mother, Laura Trout of Angleton, Texas; his two sisters: Dawn Trout of Rocky Ford, Colo., and Crystal Trout of Lake Jackson, Texas; his grandmother, Karen Allison of Bushton; his two nephews: Dylan (Madison) Mortimore of Great Bend, and Layne Trout of Rocky Ford, Colo.; his niece, Emma Trout of Lake Jackson, Texas; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.&nbsp; Danny is joined in Heaven by his father, Larry Trout; his sister, Charlie Trout; and his gramps, Larry Temple.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Bushton, with Father Michael Brungardt officiating. Danny Trout, age 40

Leo Dean Radenberg, 91, passed away March 17, 2023, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. He was born July 30, 1931, in Claflin, to Paul &amp; Rose (Miller) Radenberg. He married Patsy Dell Scott on May 21, 1955, in Great Bend. She died on May 18, 2018.

A longtime area resident, Leo worked in facility maintenance at Marlette Homes and the Central Kansas Public Library. He enjoyed mechanic work, plumbing and carpentry, as well as gardening. Leo tried to pass these and other basic life skills on to his family.

Survivors include, a son, Terry Radenberg (Kyle) of Great Bend; a daughter, Laree Hinman (David) of Hoisington; three grandchildren, Taryn Mitchell (Jack), Gannon Radenberg and (fianceé Brooke Oleson) and Steven Hinman (Sarah); and three great-grandchildren, Jackson Hinman, Kathryn Titsworth and Emersyn Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy Radenberg; two brothers, Marvin Radenberg and Albert Radenberg; and a sister, Vivian Grossardt.

Leo Radenberg, age 91

Donald Lynn "Butch" Hoberecht, 83, passed away peacefully on Feb. 17, 2023 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, KS. He was born Aug. 18, 1939, in Great Bend, KS, the son of William and Gladys Hoberecht. He graduated from Great Bend High School and attended Fort Hays State University. He married Judy Fuhr (Garmeson) and together they had five children. They later divorced. He then moved to Wichita where he married his lifelong partner Virginia Medina on April 11, 1986.

He worked on the oilfield, with his last job being with the State of Kansas.

Aside from being survived by his wife Virginia, he leaves behind his children Renalda Watkins, Boston, MA; Lori Stafford, Great Bend; Denise Mustoe, Kansas City, MO; Troy (Tammy) Hoberecht, Wichita, KS. He also leaves behind Virginia's children, Angela Schmitz, Wichita; Delta Dawn (Larry) Lee, Wichita; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, his "little yapper dog" Lola, brother Russell (Speedy and Wanda) Hoberecht, Great Bend; Leland Hoberecht, Newton, KS; Thelma (Sol) Buettgenbauch, Great Bend; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents William and Gladys Hoberecht, Glenna Bone - sister, Rhonda Lynn Hoberecht - stillborn twin to Renalda.

He was an active member of Pathway Church Westlink, Wichita. He loved to travel and spend time with his family and friends.

Bufford ‘Red’ Loyal Peevyhouse, 91, ascended to his heavenly home on March 13, 2023, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson, KS. He was born April 7, 1931, in Stigler, OK, to Frank Raspberry Peevyhouse and Lillie Alice (Reed) Peevyhouse.

Red worked as an electrical linemen his entire life. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

On December 6, 1953, he married Jean Ellen Macgirvin. They shared over 69 years of marriage.

Red is survived by: his wife, Jean Peevyhouse of Hutchinson, KS; children, Annetta (Mike) Milhon of Grand Island, NE, Gae (Jon) Dickson of Odessa, TX, Alice Grogan of Great Bend, KS, and L.D. (Tina) Peevyhouse of Hutchinson, KS; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; a great-granddaughter; three sisters; and four brothers.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Central Baptist Church, 3301 Lakin Avenue, Great Bend, KS, with the Reverend Charlotte Maxwell officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Stigler, OK.

Bufford 'Red' Peevyhouse, age 91

Edwin "Eddie" R. Piland, age 90, of Topeka, KS and formerly of Great Bend, KS, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Rossville Healthcare &amp; Rehab.

He was born the son of the late Russell and Alta May (Dykes) Piland on January 28, 1933, in rural Stafford County, KS. Eddie attended Macksville schools and furthered his education at Sterling College in Sterling, KS. While in college, Eddie met Geraldine “Gerrie” Andrus. They were married on June 26, 1954, at the Methodist Church in Macksville, KS. Together, they shared almost 69 years of marriage.

Coming to Great Bend in the summer of 1960, Eddie’s main career was as an elementary teacher for USD 428. He also worked in retail grocery, Sears, CKMC, oilfield and in personal sales. Eddie was a longtime member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Great Bend, member of the International Order of Odd Fellows and a current member of Southwest Christian Church in Topeka.

Ed and Gerrie enjoyed camping in their motorhome with the Good Sam camping organization.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Geraldine “Gerrie” Piland; three wonderful children, Neil Piland and his wife Becky of Topeka, Cindy Stevenson and her husband Mike of Loveland, CO, and Tom Piland and his wife Maria of Topeka; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Piland, Eric Piland, Peter Piland, Daniel Piland, Mindy Davidson, Chris Stevenson and Case Stevenson. Other survivors include great-grandchildren, Nathan Davidson, Clayton Davidson, Kelsey Stevenson, Chloe Stevenson, and Ian Piland. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Eston Piland.

Ness City – Carl E. McKinney, 88, passed away March 14, 2023 at Cedar Village, Ness City, Kansas.

He was born April 25, 1934 in Lewis, Kansas, the son of Elzia E. and Edith Guthrie McKinney. A lifetime area resident; he was a farmer and stockman.

He was a member of New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene and Wind Chimes Vocal Group, both of Larned, Kansas.

He married Marjorie Hall on July 10, 1966 in Kinsley, Kansas. She survives.

Other survivors include: son, Kenneth R. McKinney, Arlington, Kansas; daughter, Sheila McKinney, Garfield, Kansas; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arthur, John and Gerald McKinney.

Donald Lee “Don” Pedigo, 74, passed away March 13, 2023, at the University of Kansas Health System, Great Bend Campus. He was born on August 11, 1948, in Great Bend, to Howard S. “Coonie” and Melba Jean (Warrenburg) Pedigo. He married Kathy Schwartz on January 16, 1971, in Great Bend.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Don was most recently an electrician for Doonan Specialized Trailer, retiring in 2010. He had previously worked for Guthrie Trailer, hauled fuel for Jayhawk, was a lineman for REA, and was a dozer operator for his father’s business, Pedigo Dozer Service. Being a racing enthusiast, Don previously operated the Golden Belt Raceway in Great Bend, and served as a track official, flag man and inspector, for many area racetracks. He was a veteran of the United States Army, being stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Era, and obtaining the rank of Sergeant.

Survivors include, his wife, Kathy of the home; a son, Brian Pedigo and his wife Carie of Great Bend; two daughters, Michelle Pedigo (Mitchel Burkes) and Janell Pedigo; a brother in law, Randy Smith of Great Bend; and five grandchildren, Phane Pedigo, Accacia Pedigo, Nevaeh Pedigo, Remmi Burkes and Rowley Burkes. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary Pedigo; two sisters, Sandra Smith and Kandis Pedigo; and a nephew, David Smith.

Brad was born April 2, 1962, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Loren William and Phyllis (Seltmann) Wright. He was a resident of Great Bend, Kansas, for 40 years, moving there from Alexander, Kansas. He was a 1981 graduate of Hays High School, Hays, Kansas.

Brad enjoyed caring for the horses at the Rosewood Horse Ranch, Great Bend, Kansas, as well as participating in many horse shows. Brad loved all animals. He also enjoyed being creative in the Beautiful Minds Art Studio, and the many other activities provided by Sunflower Diversified Services. Great Bend, Kansas. Brad participated in multiple events sponsored by the Special Olympics.

Brad was an avid churchgoer and attended many churches in the Great Bend area.

Survivors include: his mother, Phyllis Wright, La Crosse, Kansas; his sister, Wanda Gard (John), Chanute, Kansas; his brother in law, Todd Misegadis, Rush Center, Kansas; two nephews, Jason Misegadis (Danielle), and Jarren Gard (Meredith); one niece, Taylor Crabtree (Devon); and several great nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father; his sister, Robin Misegadis; and a long time special friend, Kelsey Spence.

Honoring Brad’s wishes, the family has chosen cremation.

A celebration of Brad’s life will be Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at The Historic Wolf Hotel and Events Center, Ellinwood, Kansas. A private inurnment will be in the Alexander Belle-Prairie Township Cemetery, Alexander, Kansas.

Anyone who knew Brad knew he loved holidays, whether it was wearing a silly hat, or dressing up. With that in mind, Brad’s family is encouraging the service attendees to dress in St. Patrick’s attire if they wish to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Bradley 'Brad' Wright, age 60

Charles Frank Wieland, 76, passed away March 9, 2023, in Hays, KS. He was born to Frank Wieland and Fern (Toombs) Wieland on November 19, 1946, in Colby, KS. Charles was the second of three children. He attended school in Oakley, graduating with the Class of 1965.

Charlie loved life and had life-long friends. He had many interests including his Cessna 140, Harley motorcycle, classic cars as well as fishing and hunting. He was a life-long farmer and took great pride in his farming practices.

Charles married Jill Haverkamp on February 11, 1967, in Oakley and had one son, Chandler Charles Wieland. On December 27, 1981, he married Jane Ostmeyer in Oakley.

He leaves behind his wife Jane Wieland; son Chandler (Lisa) Wieland, Great Bend, KS; twin granddaughters, Ashley and Cocherell Wieland, Overland Park, KS; his sister Judie Wieland McCoy, Lubbock, TX; brother David (Regi) Wieland, Oakley, KS; as well as a host of relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, grandparents and beloved yellow labs, Cody and Max.

Charlie was a slow talker, deep thinker and could be stubborn. He showed a gruff exterior but was over-the-top generous. He loved hosting hunting expeditions from his yellow school bus. It soon became an annual event, welcoming strangers from across the country, who would become life-long friends and would continue to call him in later years. The hunters would return every year bringing additional friends and even their own children.

He loved his pickup, using the cab as his office. His dash and seat were always covered with piles of paper, with mail and receipts dangling from the visor. What would look like chaos to others made complete sense to Charlie as he could put his hand on any given paper.

He enjoyed traveling throughout the county, checking his fields and visiting with friends. He was bigger than life in more ways than one and truly loved his friends. He enjoyed being the designated ‘guard dog’, keeping watch over the neighborhood.

His funeral will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Oakley United Methodist Church, with burial to following in the Oakley City Cemetery. Charles Wieland, age 76

Robert Lewis Alberts, 74, died March 5, 2023, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. He was born June 18, 1949, in Greeley, Colorado, the son of Lewis E. and Arlene E. (Shore) Alberts.&nbsp;

On June 17, 1980, he married Wilma Smith in Adams County, Colorado, she preceded him in death on October 29, 2018.

Robert was a longtime resident of Colorado, moving to Hoisington after his retirement.&nbsp; He worked in the construction business as a heavy equipment operator and in hazmat tank testing in Colorado. Robert was a good mechanic who loved kids and enjoyed tinkering, so found himself fixing up old bikes for children in his spare time.&nbsp; He was known as a big kid himself that enjoyed giving those around him a good-natured hard time.

He is survived by his four daughters, Jennifer Vance of Hoisington, Tammy Kite (Geoff) of Louisiana, Terri Madrid of Wichita, and Jacqueline Rollins of Evergreen, Colorado;&nbsp;a brother, Shawn Alberts (Melody) of Arapahoe, Neb.,&nbsp;a sister, Gerry Cutler of California; his best friend, Rod Dilker of Hoisington; twelve grandchildren,&nbsp;Sasha Riedel, Passion Snyder, Trinity Vance, Memphis Vance, Travis Rollins, Carley Rollins, Amanda Kite, Tasha Kite, Geoff Kite, Jr., Marci Madrid, Talia Madrid, and Joseph Madrid; six great grandchildren, Bentlee Riedel, Carson Riedel, Arabella Snyder, Nicholas Snyder, Abby Kite, and one more on the way, Baby Riedel.

Neil Vernon Meckfessel, 80, passed away March 8, 2023, at Country Living of Larned.

He was born March 16, 1942, in Great Bend, the son of Vernon Henry and Ella Angela Wilson Meckfessel. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer.

He was a member of the former Rozel United Methodist Church, Larned Country Club, and was a past member of Pawnee Heights School Board. He enjoyed making stained glass, racing cars, golfing, hunting, and traveling. He served military duty in the Army National Guard.

He Married Vergie Ideker, and together they had two children, Jason Vernon and Brooke Suzanne Meckfessel. He later married Patricia Colleen Engler on March 17, 2005, in Las Vegas, N.V. She passed away Aug. 22, 2013.

Survivors include: two sisters, Anita Witcher, Elkhart; Audrey (DeeJay) Hubbard, San Mateo, Calif.; brother-in-law Alan Converse, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jason Vernon Meckfessel; daughter, Brooke Suzanne Meckfessel and a sister, Naomi Converse.

Neil Meckfessel, age 80

Merlyn Fay Henning, 94, passed away March 8, 2023, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kan. She was born on September 6, 1928, to Hal and Agnes (Luther) Byers in Great Bend, Kan. On June 6, 1954, she married Robert Lee “Bob” Henning in Great Bend, Kan. He passed on October 8, 2016.

A life-time Great Bend resident, Merlyn spent the majority of her working years as the secretary for First Assembly of God (Encounter) Church. She was a member there, as well as attended services at Faith Community Church, and a member at Lake Barton Club. Merlyn enjoyed puzzles and word searches, gardening, spending time with family and spending time with God, both in prayer and studying the Bible. Much of her life with Bob was spent planting the seed of faith and ministering to others.

Survivors include a son, Terry Henning of Eskridge, Kan.; a daughter, Nancy Ritter of Great Bend, Kan.; three grandchildren, Jessica (Wyatt Huslig) Milsap, Shane (Skylar) Meeker, and Tonya (Trevor) Olsen, all of Great Bend, Kan.; six great-grandchildren, Samantha (Austin) Drake of Wichita, Kan., Taylor Hommertzheim of Lawrence, Kan., Darius, Adalynn, and Leighton Meeker and Hadley Olsen, all of Great Bend, Kan.; one great-great-grandson, Braxton Drake of Wichita, Kan.; and honorary granddaughter, Christy Huslig of Great Bend, Kan. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Haldine Smith and Dorothy Broughman.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2023, with family receiving guests from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Midland Care Hospice surrounded by his daughter, son-in-law and three 
granddaughters. He was born May 22, 1941, in Great Bend, Kansas,
 the son of Roy Gene and Elora (Devine) Robinson. He graduated from 
Pawnee Rock High School in 1959. He served in the United States Air 
Force from 1963 to 1967 as a unit health technician where he earned a 
National Defense Service Medal. Larry was married to Judy Bass 
and they had one daughter together, born in 1971; they later divorced. 
Larry lived in Anaheim, California for many years before returning to 
Kansas. Larry was employed as an automotive salesman by Marmie Motors in
 Great Bend, Kansas for 18 years, retiring in 2009. He then moved to 
Topeka to be closer to his daughter and her family. Larry was a member of Christ the King Church in Topeka, Kansas. Survivors
 include his daughter Holly Rivera (Matthew) of Topeka; granddaughter 
Madeline Rivera (25) of Lawrence, KS, granddaughter Gabriela Rivera (22)
 of Lawrence, KS, and granddaughter Eva Rivera (15) of Topeka. He was 
preceded in death by both parents, brothers Ray and Ronald Robinson, and
 former wife Judy Bass-Schimmel. Larry enjoyed cars, cooking, 
football, history, watching the news, talking with other veterans and 
spending time with his granddaughters whom he adored beyond measure. He 
was always called “Papa Larry” by those who loved him best. Larry had 
the gift of gab and did not know a stranger. A funeral service

Orla Frederick “Fred” Behrens, Jr., 95, passed away March 8, 2023, at his home in Great Bend. He was born on August 20, 1927, in Grant County, Okla., to Orla Frederick Behrens, Sr., and Mae Ruth (Aebi) Behrens. He married Dorothy B. Ratliff on September 17, 1950, in Council Grove, Kan. A long time Great bend resident, Fred was a truck driver for R.C. Williams Trucking. He was a member of First Christian Church, American Legion Post #180, and was a WW II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed fishing, rock collecting, and making his own fine stone jewelry.

Survivors include, his son, Robert "Bob" Behrens and his wife Ruth of Great Bend; five grandchildren, Jason Behrens, Jennifer Cauley, Melissa Serrien (Greg), Michael Behrens and Brian Behrens; and six grandchildren, Sage, Sienna and Slade Cauley and Zachary, Sophie and Jeffrey Serrien. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his son and daughter in law, Ross and Karen Behrens; a brother, James Behrens and an infant brother, Robert Behrens.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2023, at First Christian Church, with Pastor Josh Leu presiding. Orla Frederick 'Fred' Behrens Jr., age 95

Robert Lewis Alberts, 74, died March 5, 2023, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. He was born June 18, 1949, in Greeley, Colorado, the son of Lewis E. and Arlene E. (Shore) Alberts.

Robert was a longtime resident of Colorado, moving to Hoisington after his retirement. He worked in the construction business as a heavy equipment operator and in hazmat tank testing in Colorado. Robert was a good mechanic who loved kids and enjoyed tinkering, so found himself fixing up old bikes for children in his spare time. He was known as a big kid himself that enjoyed giving those around him a good-natured hard time.

He is survived by his four daughters, Jennifer Vance of Hoisington, Tammy Kite (Geoff) of Louisiana, Terri Madrid of Wichita, and Jacqueline Rollins of Evergreen, Colorado; a sister, Gerry Cutler of California; his best friend, Rod Dilker of Hoisington; twelve grandchildren, Sasha Riedel, Passion Snyder, Trinity Vance, Memphis Vance, Travis Rollins, Carley Rollins, Amanda Kite, Tasha Kite, Geoff Kite, Jr., Marci Madrid, Talia Madrid, and Joseph Madrid; six great grandchildren, Bentlee Riedel, Carson Riedel, Arabella Snyder, Nicholas Snyder, Abby Kite, and one more on the way, Baby Riedel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two brothers, Shawn, and Ted Alberts.

James “Jimmy” Earl Addington, 74, passed away March 4, 2023, at his home in rural Ellinwood. He was born on March 6, 1948, to Eugene and Okla (Dixon) Addington, in Independence.

A longtime area resident, Jimmy was an electrician for C&amp;P Electric and M&amp;M Line Construction. He enjoyed carpentry and remodeling trailer houses. Jimmy loved music and collected many albums throughout the years. He enjoyed helping his family and friends but especially loved family gatherings.

Survivors include, his sister, Mary Rose Lauber of Great Bend; many nieces and nephews, including, Anneda Mossberg (Shawn) of Ellinwood, Raven Hamit (David) of Great Bend, Tommy Drewel (Kristi) of Great Bend, Kenneth Rowe of Ellinwood, Larry Lauber (Jayda) of Great Bend, Charles Rowe of Great Bend, William Rowe of Great Bend and Jason Lauber of Lyons. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bobby Addington; and two sisters, Rossie Lauber and Marie Drewel.

James 'Jimmy' Addington, age 74

Effie G. Crowell, 97, Rush Center, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Effie was born July 10, 1925, in Taylor County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Ephram and Ona Candida (Pace) Million. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. She owned and operated Effie’s Place in Rush Center, Kansas, for 50+ years before her retirement.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas.

On June 9, 1942, she married Jefferson “Jeff” Crowell. He preceded her in death July 25, 1987.

Survivors include: one son, Gary Crowell (Carol), Rush Center, Kansas; one daughter, Linda Woods (Dave), Rush Center, Kansas; five grandchildren, Steven Crowell (Patty), Clearwater, Kansas, Trevor Crowell (Judy), McCracken, Kansas, Bryan Crowell, Russell, Kansas, Amy Gassmann (Eric), Grainfield, Kansas, and Julia Oetting (Blake), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 13 great grandchildren, Kevin, Matthew, Jacob, Rachel, Ryan, Gage, Cody, Nichole, Wyatt, Lauren, Dylan, Grayden, and Kinsley; nine great great grandchildren, Roman, Atley, Lindsay, Lauren, Beau, Nick, Faith, Cecelia, and Levi; and one great great great grandson, Myles.

Brooke Justin Barlow, 50, died Feb. 28, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita. Born Oct. 6, 1972, in Newton. He was the son of Ronald V. and Laura J. (Michaelis) Barlow. Brooke graduated from Hoisington High School in 1991.

Brooke worked as a technician for the US Infrastructure Company in Wichita. He was an outdoor enthusiast and loved hunting and fishing. He also loved spending time on the golf course and cooking for his family, especially anything that could be made on his smoker. His pride and joy were his three grandsons, which he loved spending time with, and he was excited to have his first granddaughter who is due in a few weeks.

Survivors include; two daughters, Taylor Spresser and significant other Tayton Moreland of Russell, and Savannah Sidebottom and husband Bryce of Salina; three grandsons, Graham Spresser, Brynk Sidebottom and Boyd Sidebottom; and soon to be, granddaughter, Baby Zoey. He is also survived by a sister, Jessica Campbell of Hoisington; niece, Rylie Campbell, and nephew, Peyton Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ron &amp; Laura Barlow, and grandparents, Reuben &amp; Babe Michaelis, and Dusty &amp; Helen Barlow.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hoisington, with Rhonda Templing, SAM, presiding. Family will greet friends prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

David Jess Sohm, 46, passed away at his home Monday, Feb. 27, 2023. He was born March 6, 1976, to Cliff and Lila Sohm in Great Bend.

A lifelong resident of Great Bend, David spent the last several years of his life as a caretaker for his father. A sincerely funny and fun loving man, he loved Jesus, Trump, guns, the Chiefs and the Wildcats, and his parents.

David was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his father, a son – Cody Griffith of Salina, a sister –Vicki Bortzer (Mont) of Jetmore, and his nieces and nephews – Taylor, Kaden, Kaylee, Tatum, and Walker.

Cremation has occurred and a family service will be planned for a later date. David is finally free of the chains and burdens of this world. Memorials have been designated to the David Sohm Memorial Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
