Stephanie Laura Titus, 55, passed away Aug. 22, 2024, at University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Sept. 2, 1968, in Parsons to Henry and Marilyn (Swafford) Nickel.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Stephanie married her soul mate, Stephen M. Titus May 13, 1995, in Newton.&nbsp; They relocated to Great Bend in 1998, where she worked for USD 428 at Eisenhower Elementary and Great Bend Middle School, touching the hearts of students and staff as a Paraprofessional for 17 years. Stephanie was a kind-hearted, devoted friend that loved selflessly and unconditionally. She was extremely talented taking “one man’s trash and making a treasure” by refinishing furniture, or anything she found at thrift stores or garage sales. She loved to sew and create, then take her treasures to crafts shows and rehome her amazing creations.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include her beloved husband of 29 years, Stephen M. Titus; sons, Tristan Titus (Riley Jones) of Manhattan, Kelby Titus of Manhattan; grandson, Weston James Titus of Manhattan; sisters, Kathy Becker (Brian) of Newton, Carrie Miller (Todd) of Topeka; parents, Henry and Marilyn (Swafford) Nickel, and many friends that she would do anything for.&nbsp;

Ida Mary Smrcka, 93, passed away Aug. 24, 2024, at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born March 28, 1931 in La Crosse, the daughter of Clarence and Anna Irish Morrison.

A lifetime Rush County resident, she was a homemaker. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening, and working alongside her husband on the farm. Her greatest joy was to be a grandma to Katie Ann and a great grandma GG to Brielle.

On October 15, 1955 she married Willard Dean Smrcka at La Crosse; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include: daughter, Vickie Sue (R.J.) Tammen, Timken; granddaughter, Katie Ann (Shawn) Doyle, Timken; great granddaughter, Brielle Maryn Doyle; brother, Victor Morrison, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Robert Allen Smrcka; and her brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, with family present from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Bohemian National Cemetery, Timken. Private family service will be at a later date.

Brenda Lea
Loesch, 66, passed away peacefully in her home, August 19, 2024, in Great Bend,
Kansas. She was born February 19, 1958, in Garfield, Kan., to Carl and Sara
(Schell) Mostrom. Brenda married Jerry Loesch on September 19, 1993, in Great
Bend. 

Brenda was
a member of Central Baptist Church. She previously had worked for Fuller Brush,
CKMC, Dr. Krause, and as a Home Health Aide. She found joy in gardening, having
new experiences in traveling, crafting, and shopping.

Survivors
include her husband of 30 years, Jerry Loesch; son, James Weatherman (Lisa) of
Lyons; daughter, Heather Weatherman (Jeff White) of Great Bend; grandsons,
Damien Weatherman, Dylan Frank (Destice), Wyatt Frank (Sierra); granddaughters,
Sierra Anderson (Dallas), and Bailey Jones; great grandson, Calvin Frank; step
son, Tracy Loesch (Penny) of Raymond; step daughter, Jeri Lynn Aylward (Mike)
of Hoisington; brothers, Larry Mostrom of Topeka and John Mostrom (Shawn) of

Brenda Loesch, age 66

Daniel Thomas Hauck, 70, passed away Nov. 19, 2023, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. He was born Jan. 18, 1953, in Hutchinson to Thomas Frank Hauck and Thelma Merleen (Leeper) Hauck.

Daniel was a proud member of the military, having served two terms in the United States Navy: from 1969 to 1973, on the U.S.S. Jouett, and from 1977 to 1981, on the U.S.S. Coral Sea. After being honorably discharged, he moved on to be a driver and mechanic for Chism’s Trash Service, in Great Bend. Daniel was not just an employee, but a friendly face to all on his route, from passing out candy for the kids, handing out treats for the furry friends, and being followed around and recorded by teens that were interested in his work.

On Feb. 14, 2000, he married the love of his life, Janice Lynn Goans. To their union, Janice brought along her daughter, Shawna, and Shawna’s daughter, Caitlin, whom he grew an unconditional, lifelong bond with. Janice later passed away on April 22, 2007. Daniel’s heart was shattered by this loss. While he left us much sooner than we would have wanted, Daniel was ready to be back together with Janice for eternity.

Survivors include his mother, Thelma M. Hembree of Hutchinson; children, Shawna Goans of Lincoln, Neb., and Kevin (spouse Tammi) Schreiner of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Caitlin Schmitt of Lincoln, Neb., Nola Schreiner of Austin, Texas, and Gibson Schreiner of Austin, Texas; siblings, Mike Cooper of Hutchinson, Kelly (spouse Milton) Clevenger of Colwich, and Amenda Lobstein of Hutchinson; goddaughter, Leanda Love Mooney, Leadville, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Lynn Hauck; his stepfather, George ‘Tommy’ Hembree; brother, Robert Lee Hauck; and three infant sisters.

If you knew Daniel, you most likely knew him as Dan, Danny, Dan-Dan the Trash Man, or Caitlin’s Papa. He was a devoted family man, and lifelong friend to many. Daniel's passion for his work, his wife, and his family never failed to shine. He will be greatly missed and cherished.

Daniel Hauck, age 70 (updated)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene Henry Baumfalk was born August 31, 1935 in Hitchcock County to Alvin and Hannah Pollmann Baumfalk and entered Heaven on August 21, 2024. Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Hannah later remarried Harry Hein and two more brothers and a sister were added to the family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene graduated High School from Culbertson and lived in the Culbertson and the McCook area his entire life. Eugene enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1960. On November 21, 1964, Eugene married Cleta Riley Felker. Eugene became a father to Donald, Ray and Lori with this marriage and in 1971 Eugene and Cleta welcomed another son, Paul.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene worked at the McCook Meat Packing Company for several years before going into business for himself laying carpet. Gene excelled at this trade and spent many years at it providing for his family. Eugene bowled on a bowling team for many years; 35 years of them with his son, Don. Bowling was one of the loves of his life along with fishing. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and New York Yankee fan and loved to watch them on TV with Cleta. Eugene also loved animals, but the true loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours caring for his grandchildren. Eugene was a kind and loving man with a deep love for his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by his family.

Eugene Henry Baumfalk (1935-2024)

Jeanette Hallman, 92, died August 20, 2024, at Legend Senior Living, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was one of nine children born to Clarence and Selma (Cook) Pohlman on August 19, 1932, in Ellinwood. &nbsp;

Jeanette grew up on a dairy farm in Barton County, graduating from Ellinwood High School in 1950, and later, Adela Hale Business College, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She worked at People’s State Bank in Ellinwood before moving to Hutchinson, and was a homemaker. &nbsp;From her infectious laugh, positive spirit, and welcoming nature, Jeanette was an example of selfless unconditional love, compassion, and integrity. &nbsp;No matter how challenging the task, Jeanette was up to the challenge of gifting those around her with her servant’s heart and caregiving nature. &nbsp;Jeanette was a dedicated volunteer at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and her church, First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson. &nbsp; Above all, family came first. &nbsp;Jeanette was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandma, sister, and aunt.&nbsp;

On June 24, 1956, she married Victor “Vic” Hugo Hallman, in Ellinwood. &nbsp;He died November 14, 2000, after they shared 44 years of marriage.

Jeanette is survived by: &nbsp;son, Brian Hallman (Rhonda) of Flower Mound, TX; daughter, Terri McQueen (Mike) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Samantha Koenig (Matt), Brittany Hallman, Christian Hallman (Sarah), Max McQueen, and Lillie McQueen; great-grandsons, Camden and Noah Koenig, with great-grandson Hallman arriving in October; sisters, Betty Thomas of McPherson and Marlene Wornkey of St. John; brother, Darrell Pohlman of Lee’s Summit, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Denise Hallman; sisters, Marilyn Martens, Velda Stokes, and Dorothy Bryant; and brothers, Donald Pohlman and Alfred Pohlman.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2024, at Trinity Cemetery, Hudson, KS. &nbsp;Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, Hutchinson, both officiated by the Reverend Christine Kass.  </figure>Jeanette Hallman, 92, died August 20, 2024, at Legend Senior Living, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was one of nine children born to Clarence and Selma (Cook) Pohlman on August 19, 1932, in Ellinwood. &nbsp;Jeanette grew up on a dairy farm in Barton County, graduating from Ellinwood High School in 1950, and later, Adela Hale Business College, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She worked at People’s State Bank in Ellinwood before moving to Hutchinson, and was a homemaker. &nbsp;From her infectious laugh, positive spirit, and welcoming nature, Jeanette was an example of selfless unconditional love, compassion, and integrity. &nbsp;No matter how challenging the task, Jeanette was up to the challenge of gifting those around her with her servant’s heart and caregiving nature. &nbsp;Jeanette was a dedicated volunteer at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and her church, First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson. &nbsp; Above all, family came first. &nbsp;Jeanette was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandma, sister, and aunt.&nbsp;On June 24, 1956, she married Victor “Vic” Hugo Hallman, in Ellinwood. &nbsp;He died November 14, 2000, after they shared 44 years of marriage.Jeanette is survived by: &nbsp;son, Brian Hallman (Rhonda) of Flower Mound, TX; daughter, Terri McQueen (Mike) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Samantha Koenig (Matt), Brittany Hallman, Christian Hallman (Sarah), Max McQueen, and Lillie McQueen; great-grandsons, Camden and Noah Koenig, with great-grandson Hallman arriving in October; sisters, Betty Thomas of McPherson and Marlene Wornkey of St. John; brother, Darrell Pohlman of Lee’s Summit, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Denise Hallman; sisters, Marilyn Martens, Velda Stokes, and Dorothy Bryant; and brothers, Donald Pohlman and Alfred Pohlman.Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2024, at Trinity Cemetery, Hudson, KS. &nbsp;Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Wilma Lee Pettijohn, 78, passed away Aug. 18, 2024, at her home in Great Bend. She was born June 22, 1946, to Dilton Cleo “Shorty” Myers and Leeoda Doughty Myers in Great Bend. Wilma married Carl Shryock in February 1963, and had three children; Paul Shryock, C.J. Shryock, and Shrya Shryock. They later divorced. She married Jim Pettijohn and added three more children; Judy Gorden, Josh Pettijohn, and Takowa (Pettijohn) Ramirez.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Wilma was a faithful member of First St. Church of God in Hoisington. She lived in Phoenix, Nashville, Hutchinson, but called Great Bend home. She worked at Fuller Brush, Dolly Madison, True Value, Smokey’s, Wichita Eagle for 29 years and Great Bend Tribune. She loved to ride her motorcycle, crochet, dancing, and creating flower arrangements.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include her sons, C.J. Sandra Sue “Sandy” Tammen, 83, Rush Center, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse.

Sandy was born July 13, 1941, in La Crosse, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Williams) Klaus. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County. A 1959 graduate of Bison Rural High School, Bison, she was a beautician, homemaker and farm wife.

She was a current member of Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, and a former member of the Rush County Fair Board, and Gamma Zeta Sorority. She was also a former member of Hopewell Neighbors. When Hopewell Neighbors disbanded, Sandy became a member of Prairie Pals.

Sandy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and taking care of her flowers.

On Oct. 13, 1959, she married Dale Tammen at the United Methodist Church, Bison.

Survivors include: her husband, Dale Tammen, Rush Center; one son, Kent Tammen (Mary Jo), Hays; one daughter, Kayla Hardwick (Daryl), Hays; six grandchildren, Ashley Perez (Tabre), Austin Tammen (Lindsey Morrissey), Tyler Hardwick, Samantha Shaffer (Phillip), Brandon Hardwick, and Courtney Carlino (Daniel); four great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Billie Klaus, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kyle Tammen; and one brother, Don Klaus.

Roger Alan Stephens, 72, passed away on August 17, 2024 surrounded by his family at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. He was born November 2, 1951 in Indio, CA, son of Clifford and Ruth (Stanbrough) Stephens. He married Rita Joann Pekarek on July 6, 1974 in Wilson, KS.

He graduated from Claflin High School in 1969 and Fort Hays State University in 1973 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry. Following graduation, he worked for the Department of Health and Environment in Dodge City. In 1981, he started working at the Bushton Natural Gas processing plant as a chemist where he worked for 40 years before retiring in 2021. Roger was a member of the Claflin United Methodist Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed farming at the family farm in Wilson. He loved watching his kids and grandkids learn and grow while enjoying all of their activities.

He is survived by his wife Rita; son, Eric A. Stephens of Hays; daughters, Shawna R. Roark and husband Michael of Garden City, and Elisha A. Chambers and husband Chad of Leon; grandchildren, Mason &amp; Molly Roark, and Stetson Chambers; sister, Dawn Hinds and husband Randy of Meriden, IA. Frank Steven Ochs, 69, passed away Aug. 16, 2024, surrounded by family at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood. He was born on March 28, 1955, in Hoisington to Willis and Virginia (Leek) Ochs. On Oct. 21, 1978, he married Judy Klema in Great Bend.&nbsp;

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Frank spent most of his working years farming, and worked as a yard foreman at L&amp;M Contractors prior to his retirement. He was of the Methodist faith. Frank was passionate about supporting his community by his involvement with the Barton County Fair Board (being a founding member), Farm Bureau Board, Mid-Kansas Quality Water Board, Hillcrest/Golden Belt Cemetery Board, 4-H Leader, 4-H Shooting Sports instructor for over 20 years, FFA Alumni Board, Elks Club, and Sons of the American Legion. He enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, yard work and gardening, and spending time with his family.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Judy of the home; three sons, Brandon Ochs and wife Melissa, Brett Ochs and wife Cindy, and Blake Ochs and wife Shelby, all of Great Bend; 11 grandchildren, Callie Ochs, Christina Powell, Analeah, Jordan, and Amber Ochs, Josh and Steven Crawford, Brecken, Harper, Weston, and Kade Ochs; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.&nbsp;

Frank Ochs, age 69

Vernon LeRoy Jones, Jr., 63, passed away August 14, 2024, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. He was

born on February 16, 1961, in Hoisington, Kansas, to Vernon LeRoy Sr. and Edna (Robinson) Jones. Vernon Jr. was married to Pamela Jones; they later divorced. He was then married to Maria Jones; they later divorced.

A long-time area resident, Vernon Jr. enlisted in the United States Navy, making his service a career for over 20 years, reaching the rank of Head Lieutenant of Telecommunications. Aside from being military, he was a member of the First Bible Baptist Church in Hoisington, Kansas. Vernon Jr. had an ear for music; he was a terrific musician, starting with playing in a band in high school. Earl Allen Schmidt, 95, passed away on
August 16, 2024, surrounded by family at River Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend,
Kansas. He was born on August 20, 1928, in rural Barton County to Henry and
Anna (Unruh) Schmidt. In March 1948, he married Charlotte “Janice” Flick in
Pawnee Rock, Kansas.

A lifetime area resident, Earl worked
as a farmer and drove a school bus for Pawnee Rock Schools for 35 years. He was
a member of the First United Methodist Church, as well as the Pawnee Rock Lions
Club. He enjoyed collecting and restoring tractors, and square dancing in his
younger years.

Survivors include his wife of 76
years, Janice; two sons, Michael Schmidt and wife Janet of Cornelius, Oregon,
and Dennis Schmidt and wife Terrie of Cape Coral, Florida; daughter, Brenda
Girard of Hays; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous
nieces and nephews.

Lila Lee (Hysell) Berschauer, 85, went home to be with the Lord on August 15, 2024. She was born on July 2, 1939, on a farm outside of Geneseo, Kansas, and was the daughter of Emory Hiram and Frances Joyce (Campbell) Hysell.



She graduated from Lyons High School in 1957. On August 10, 1958, Lila married William Dean Berschauer. A resident of Albert since 1966, coming from WaKeeney, Pratt, and Great Bend, she worked at several occupations including real estate and insurance agencies, and retired of her job of 28 years from Brown’s Shoe Fit Company in 2016.



Lila was a member of Encounter Church (formerly First Assembly of God). She received her Certified Minister Credential in 2012. She was passionate in living her life for the Lord. Lila had a quiet and gentle spirit, but most of all, had a deep desire for all to know Jesus. She loved to study the Word. Lila’s favorite verse as a child was John 3:16. It was the first scripture she had ever read, which was off a pamphlet a preacher had handed out to her in school. Her favorite verse on faith was John 20:31 and favorite chapter is Psalm 23. Other hobbies included reading, cooking, canning, gardening, scrapbooking, and refurbishing antiques. Lila especially cherished spending time with her family.



Survivors include husband of 66 years, William Berschauer of Wichita; two daughters, Crystal Bieberle (Jim), and Denise Guthrie (Mark), all of Great Bend; three sons, Daren Berschauer (Marcie McEachin) of Austin, Texas, Eric Berschauer (Jena) of Valley Center, and Shawn Berschauer (Rod Kline) of Park City; brother, Richard Hysell (Mary) of Lyons; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Guthrie (Diane) of Great Bend, Dustin Guthrie (Kaci) of Woodland Park, Colorado, Blake Guthrie (Lauren) of Andover, Chelsea Laramore (Mark) of Valley Center, Trista Fritz (Charley) of Valley Center, Chase Bieberle (Jess) of Derby, Chance Berschauer (fiancée Madison) of Valley Center, and Cason Berschauer (girlfriend Andrea) of Valley Center; and seventeen great grandchildren, gaining another great grandchild the day after her passing, honored with the name “Brooklyn Lila.” 

She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen Howe and Mary Lou Hysell; and three brothers, Hiram, Edwin, and Daniel Hysell.

Jean E. “Jeannie” Martin, age 81 years, longtime Great Bend resident, passed away at her home in Great Bend on Thursday morning, August 15, 2024.&nbsp; Jeannie was born on June 6, 1943 at Hoisington, Kansas to Esten and Blanche (Jennings) Stehwein. She graduated from Hoisington High School in 1961 and moved to Great Bend in 1974.&nbsp; Jeannie operated Mimi’s Daycare from her home for many years and later worked as Custodian for the Barton County Courthouse in Great Bend.&nbsp; She later worked for J.C. Penney in Great Bend, where she worked as a sales associate, cashier, custodian, and other maintenance duties, retiring in 2015.&nbsp; Jeannie enjoyed crafts of all kinds and was very talented at working with her hands.&nbsp; She loved to bake – especially Monster and Sugar Cookies, and also cakes for birthdays and special occasions for family and friends.

Rozel – Shirley Ann Patterson, 86, passed away August 13, 2024 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born April 25, 1938 in Larned, the daughter of John Albert and Lucille Kathryn Young Franz.

A lifetime area resident, she was of the Baptist faith and a past member of the First Baptist Church of Rozel. She was a former member of the Sweet Adelines. She was a hairdresser and worked at Larned Healthcare Center for thirty-five years. Shirley was always on the go, never missing an event of her children and grandchildren. She loved playing bridge, was an avid KU Basketball fan, watching and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On May 11, 1958 she married Joe A. Patterson in Rozel; he preceded her in death on May 5, 1994.

Travis Lee
Milsap, 54, passed away August 13, 2024, at his home in Great Bend, Kansas. He
was born June 16, 1970, to Margaret Ann (Luebbers) Milsap in Great Bend.

Travis was
a Great Bend High School class of 1988 graduate, and then attended Wichita
State University. Upon his return to Great Bend, he worked as chief technician
for Multimedia Cablevision, electrician for Primus, and finally for United Parcel
Service with 20 years of dedicated service until his retirement. Travis was a
true outdoorsman who chased his dreams and followed his heart, living life to
the fullest. &nbsp;After retirement, he followed
his aspirations as a fishing guide at Lake Texoma and Beaver Lake.&nbsp; Travis was a member of Community Christian
Church and enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends, who will miss him
dearly. 

Survivors
include his son, Jacob Milsap and wife Katelyn of Hoisington, Kan.; significant
other, Jami Reed of Great Bend and her family; Elle Anne Reed, daughter of the
heart, Taylor Reed and fiancée Savannah Kennon, Nick Reed, Ryder Reed, Rhett
Reed and Baker Reed all of Great Bend; mother, Margaret Ann Milsap of Great

Jack Ray Millard, 70, of Great Bend, passed away July 29, 2024.

Born March 25, 1954 in Hoisington, Ks. to Jack and Betty Millard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Janice and Mari Gaye and infant brother Richard.

He is survived by his daughter Erin McLarty and grandson Dakota,

brothers; Terry and Kelly, sisters; Susan, Norma and Tracy, numerous nephews and nieces and too many to count greats and great-greats.

He spent many years in the oilfield and retired in 2021.

Jack developed a deep love and devotion for the Lord. He considered himself a crotchety old man while still having a kind and loving heart. He was loved by many and will be missed.

Jack was cremated and there will not be a funeral. A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.

Leasial William Orndoff, 72, passed away in Ellinwood on Aug. 7, 2024. Born Oct. 17, 1951, in Marshall, Ark., he was the son of John Wesley and Eugenie May (Lea) Orndoff.

Ralph Rito Amador, 95, passed away
August 13, 2024, at Diversicare of Larned, Kansas. He was born on May 22, 1929,
in Ellinwood, Kansas, to Santos and Maria (Sanchez) Amador. 

A long-time area resident, Ralph
proudly serviced his country in the United States Army. He had multiple
careers, from truck drive, to working as a mechanic, a security guard, and even
assisting as a day care provider. Ralph was a member of Jehovah’s Witness
Kingdom Hall in Great Bend. He was an avid pen collector, and loved spending
time with his family, particular grandchildren.

Survivors include six sons, Andrew
Amador and wife Kayleen of Aloha, Oregon, John Amador, Robert Amador and wife
Joann, Muriel Amador, and Paul Amador, all of Great Bend, and Mike Amador and
wife Elizabeth of Vancouver, Washington; two daughters, Stella Ochs and husband
Michael of Great Bend, and Amber Robertson and husband Jason of Oregon;
twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; and numerous great
great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his
parents; first wife, Delories Amador; second wife, Linda Amador; third wife,
Jeannette Amador; brothers, Johnny and Raymond Amador; and sisters, Margaret
Falcon and Mary Lou Hernandez.

Ralph Amador, age 95

Delma (Blackie) Blackburn, 91, of Raymond, Kansas, passed away August 10, 2024, at the Sterling Village, Sterling, Kansas. He was born September 3, 1932 in Shidler, Oklahoma to Thomas Jefferson Blackburn and Willie Mae (Lowe) Blackburn. On July 3, 1952, he was united in marriage with Lila Hendricks in Raymond.

Blackie was a lifelong Raymond resident, and a member of the Raymond Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #320 of Ellinwood. Blackie worked in the Kansas oil fields as a pumper, driller, and owner of Ellinwood Tank Service.

He joined the U.S. Army on March 25, 1953 and served until being honorably discharged on March 24, 1955.

Blackie is survived by two daughters, Vicki Caywood of Hutchinson, and Lorie Taylor and husband Victor of Cedarcreek, MO; four grandchildren, David Joe Blackburn, Shana Givens and husband Cliff, Jeremy Taylor and wife Melissa, and Joshua Taylor and wife Becca; nine great-grandchildren, Steve Blackburn, Abigail Blackburn, Allison Blackburn, Rylan Birkby, Brynley Taylor, Camila Taylor, Brecken Taylor, Cian Taylor, and Carter Taylor; and two siblings, W.A Blackburn and Gerry Milsap. He is also survived by his nephew, Harold Blackburn, Jr., Sallisaw, Oklahoma and niece, Ruth Herbel, Marion, both of whom he loved and cared for as if they were his own children following the accidental death of his brother, Harold, in 1955.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son Steve Blackburn; son-in-law, Douglas Caywood; granddaughter; Reannan Kloxin; great-granddaughter, Ellie Taylor; brothers Harold and Otis Blackburn; and sister, Pauline Coldwater.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Raymond Cemetery, with Pastor Matt Hendricks officiating. Military honors presented by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Blackie’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Sterling Village for the compassionate and supportive care provided to him and to Lila. Delma 'Blackie' Blackburn, age 91

Julee Ann Buckman, 63, passed away Aug. 7, 2024, at Lifecare Center of Grandview, Grandview, Mo.

She was born July 21, 1961 in Larned, the daughter of Harold and Alma “Amy” Ringeisen Bauer.

Growing up in Larned and later moving to Conway Springs, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conway Springs, and an active member of the Alatar Society. She was a 1979 graduate of Larned High School, grew up a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and was a Paraprofessional for many years at USD 495. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning, cooking, and collecting antiques.

On June 4, 2011, she married Chris Eugene Buckman at Hudson; he survives.

Other survivors include: mother, Alma “Amy” Bauer, Buhler, two daughters, April Renea Bilbrey, Carlisle, Penn., Jessie (Lynn) Miller, Larned; two sons, Justin (Janet) Hammond, Larned, Eathan Hammond, Larned; two sisters, Susan Ward, Norton, Lynda Murphy, Larned; brother, James Bauer, Larned; seven grandchildren, Ben, Claire, Mylee, Braxton, Haylee, Mason, Carter.

Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Anselm Eke, MSP presiding. Curtis Everett Gillespie, 82, of Chase, Kansas, passed away August 9, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. He was born October 20, 1941, in Warsaw, Missouri, the son of Robert and Margaret (Mezzacasa) Gillespie. Curtis was a lifelong Chase resident. He graduated from Chase High School, with the class of 1959. 

Curtis was a pipeline supervisor for Texaco-Kaw Pipeline. He was a member of the Chase Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge of Kansas, and Striped Bass Association of Kansas. Curtis started and taught Hunter Safety Classes in Chase. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, building homes, riding 4-wheelers, and traveling. On June 25, 1960, Curtis was united in marriage with Nelda Hughlene Kinslow in Chase. 

He is survived by his wife, Nelda of Chase, KS; three children, Pam Patterson and husband Chuck of St. John, KS, Carl Gillespie and wife Rhonda of Chase, KS, and Rhonda Flickinger and husband Brad of Sterling, KS; sister, Ottavia Ludwick of Sterling, KS; good friend, Max Tharp of Eureka, KS; seven grandchildren, Charlie Patterson, Dustin Patterson (Kayla), Brandi Larson (Keith), Tony Andrews (Jessica), Michelle Mawhirter (Cole), Kyle Gillespie (Rebekah), and Kacey Andrews (Kylie); and sixteen great-grandchildren. 

Curtis is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Dale Gillespie, Robert “Buck” Gillespie, William “Bill” Gillespie, Herman “Slick” Gillespie, and John Gillespie; and five sisters, Mary Neal, Edith Orster, Minnie “Midget” Wheeler, Goldie “Nip” Gates, and Betty Gillespie.

Burial will follow at the Chase Springdale Cemetery, Chase, with masonic rites. It is with great sorrow that the family of Fredia L. Dodson announces the passing of their Mother, Grandmother, and Mema on June 17, 2024, surrounded by family, at the age of 89, in Great Bend.&nbsp;

Fredia was born on July 17, 1934, in Texas County, Mo., the third child of seven to Charles and Daisy Coatney. She married her high school sweetheart, Lyle Dodson, on May 10, 1952, and moved to Great Bend where they raised their children: Steven Lyle Dodson (Jacque) of Wichita, Gregory Dodson of Hutchinson, and Lora Alefs (Kenny) of Great Bend. They owned and operated Rosencrantz-Bemis Water Well in Great Bend since 1973 and Darling Drilling in Hutchinson.&nbsp;

She was very proud of her five grandchildren: Kelly Kearney, Cory Dodson, Christopher Dodson, Ryan Alefs and Shelly Duvall. Fredia was blessed with seven great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and one great-great-granddaughter. Her love for them was boundless and she never missed an opportunity to boast about their accomplishments.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchild; one brother; and three sisters.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother; and one sister.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Fredia Dodson, age 89

Donald P. “Don” Renchko, age 67 years of Great Bend, Kansas passed away at his home in Great Bend on August 6, 2024.&nbsp; Don was born on October 23, 1956 at Los Angeles, California to Steven and Dorothy (Marvel) Renchko.&nbsp; He was a caregiver for his mother in her later years, and after moving to Great Bend in October of 2017 he worked nights at Walmart in Great Bend unloading freight and stocking shelves.&nbsp; Don loved to make bricks from scratch for landscaping, and enjoyed walking and bike riding.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include two sisters:&nbsp; Stephanie (&amp; Patrick) McCormick of Florida and Susanne K. Welcher of Great Bend; several nieces, nephews and cousins.&nbsp; Don was preceded in death by his parents.

Donald P. “Don” Renchko, age 67 years of Great Bend, Kansas passed away at his home in Great Bend on August 6, 2024.&nbsp; Don was born on October 23, 1956 at Los Angeles, California to Steven and Dorothy (Marvel) Renchko.&nbsp; He was a caregiver for his mother in her later years, and after moving to Great Bend in October of 2017 he worked nights at Walmart in Great Bend unloading freight and stocking shelves.&nbsp; Don loved to make bricks from scratch for landscaping, and enjoyed walking and bike riding.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include two sisters:&nbsp; Stephanie (&amp; Patrick) McCormick of Florida and Susanne K. Welcher of Great Bend; several nieces, nephews and cousins.&nbsp; Don was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Cremation has been chosen and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date to be announced.&nbsp; The family has requested that Memorial Contributions in Don’s memory be made in care of the family for later designation.
