Third Lady Panther swim relay qualifies for state

Prep swim meets across the state feature three relay races. The Great Bend High School swimmers have now qualified for state in all three races. Last Thursday in Newton, the Lady Panther 400-year free relay of Josephine Mazouch, Sydney Kruckenberg, Darcy Feist, and Emily Hall finished third in 4:11.46 to miss the silver medal by more than two seconds. However, the team did beat the automatic state qualification time of 4:12.45.

McPherson won the Newton Invitational with 265 points. Great Bend edged out the host Railers 186-182 for second.

The 200 medley relay has already qualified for state. Thursday, the team of Hall, Mazouch, Feist, and Clarise Snapp finished third in 2:10.98, nearly two seconds behind the silver medalists from Newton. The squad of Kruckenberg, Meredith Mazouch, Ava Gregg, and Braylee Carper placed fifth in 2:24.97. The 200 free relay has also qualified for state. Thursday, the team of Kruckenberg, Meredith Mazouch, Madelynne Siefkes, and Ellie Lutt placed eighth in 2:03.35 so miss the bronze by six seconds.

Josephine Mazouch continues to flirt with a state qualification time in the 100 free, placing second in 1:00.72 to miss the gold by 1.3 seconds. The state qualification mark is 57.21. Hall placed third in the 50 free in 27.51, less than a second behind the silver. Josephine Mazouch finished fourth in 27.68, and Feist swam ninth in 29.65. Hall finished sixth in the 100 fly in 1:09.52 to miss the bronze by six seconds. Snapp just missed a state consideration time in the 100 breast where she placed third in 1:21.98 to miss the silver by two seconds. Gregg swam sixth in 1:26.67.

Kruckenberg finished sixth in the 200 free in 2:35.12 to miss the bronze by 19 seconds. Carper placed seventh in 2:36.52. Gregg finished seventh in the 200 IM in 2:53.26, followed by Snapp in eighth in 2:53.94. A 2:31 was needed for the bronze. Lutt placed sixth in the 500 free in 7:11.59, just 11 seconds out of fourth place. Katelyn Mermis finished 10th in 7:21.96. Meredith Mazouch placed ninth in the 100 back in 1:19.26 to miss the bronze by nine seconds. Siefkes finished 13th in 1:29.58.

The Lady Panthers head to the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Garden City on Thursday.
